We also have a small room--10x10, and we have a crib, bookshelf, glider, and dresser-as-changing-table. We haven't found that we needed any additional furniture! Here's a pic. ETA the bookshelf is to the right of the crib:

LO isn't here yet, but our nursery is small and we are keeping our old queen size bed in there for our moms to stay in when the visit in the beginning, when baby is still sleeping in our room. So our plan (and I cannot vouch for how well this will work, but I think it will be OK) is to have:
queen bed
crib
dresser/changer
blackout curtains

I figure books can go on the bottom shelf of our regular bookshelves in the living area for now, though we probably will put some up on the wall in the nursery too. The glider will go in the living room for the first few months. Once the baby is routinely sleeping in the nursery all night, we will reevaluate if we still need the bed in there and might get rid of it or go down to a twin, then move the glider into the nursery. I will definitely have some kind of surface-- table, window sill-- to put a drink and my iphone or something on next to the glider, wherever it lives.

for us, the bare neccesities were:

crib, medium sized dresser (we got a small baby sized one and it's way too small), somewhere to change the baby.

We have a pretty small room as well. I would say:

crib
dresser with changing table top (we have a dresser that is the exact size of the changing pad with no extra room on the sides)

Those are the only 2 necessities IMO -- changing table is super useful so you don't have to bend over to change the baby all of the time- we were doing that in the beginning and i was really hurting my back. Crib - obvious.

bookcase is nice to have. but i've seen a lot of people do cool shelves on the wall which would work out well -- our bookcase also doubles as the only surface in the room for a small lamp with a dimmer.

we got a glider & ottoman, and while it looks nice - I've sat in it with the baby about 5 times. BUT - we have a twin bed in the room and I always nurse him there --- if my husband feeds him a bottle he'll sometimes sit in the glider, but will also sit on the twin bed.

Our room is small as well and we originally only had a crib and dresser/changing table (we got the combo unit with the hutch top that matches our dresser, minus the hutch top....we wanted the pieces to work and fit enough clothing for when he was a teenager also). We recently added a low storage unit for toys that is sort of Montessori style. That is it for furniture and plenty of it for us. We do have this awkward corner of space that can't be used for anything that I want to turn into a reading nook.
