Going to spend 2 days in NYC with just LO (18months), sister, and niece (8 months). Planning to do Central Park and hopefully the Zoo one day. Would like to take them to a museum the 2nd day. We usually go to The Met, but wanted to see if there were any other suggestions more suitable for a loud, active tot and a baby that wants to walk, but not quite there yet. lol.

We went to NYC last spring with our 18 month old visiting his 5 month old cousin. Everyone loved the Brooklyn Children's Museum (loved it!!) and the Museum of Natural History.

And do the Bronx zoo if you can! Wayyy better than central park zoo.

You mean, like a museum for an adult? Or that is for kids? The Children's Museum of Manhattan is amazing! We have a membership and go a lot. Highly recommend. Otherwise, Museum of Natural History might be a good one, lots of cool things for toddlers and babies to look at...

Def the Bronx zoo over Central park if you can. And I'd totally do the museum of natural history!!

Transit museum is my hands-down favorite. There are interactive things for kids and all the old subway cars from across the last century. If your LO likes trains it would be great. It's in Brooklyn, at Hoyt-Schermerhorn.

@shopaholic: I also recommend the Museum of Natural History. They have a small water area on the 2nd floor and they have a kid's activity room too. Plus lots of stairs for kids to go up and down. For some reason, my LO likes to walk up and down stairs! Haha! Plus there is a shake shack across the street and lots of neighborhood parks a block away.

Ooh! Thanks for the suggestions! Brooklyn Zoo it is! I actually just thought the Central Park Zoo was famous or something (from Madagascar? lol. Trusty reference source, of course!)
Both Museum of Natural History and Children's Museum of Manhattan sound like winners! We'll have to see how we do on time and which one we can go to. I thought the Natural History might be a little better suited for older kids, but @aegie: K loooves the stairs and anything water too! Thanks!!!

Those two museums are only a 5 minute walk from each other, so in theory you might be able to go to both
Not sure when you're going but the Children's Museum has a great outside water play area, and then 5 floors of stuff for toddlers to explore. It is seriously awesome (and down the block from where we live! Come say hi 
)
