I think the "standard" was $100pp for a wedding at a venue. has it changed? going to a wedding next week and planning to give $200 but hoping it's not too "cheap"... we're not close friends but i've known him for a long time. he came to my wedding and i don't even remember what he gave, but i had a church wedding so.... plus, not sure if we're supposed to give more because it's in manhattan....

I think $150-200 pp is good. Probably $150 if you are not close.

I would usually do 100-150 per person. For a wedding in NYC I'd probably give 250, but if you aren't super close I don't think 200 is really cheap either.
At our wedding in New England, the most common amounts were 200 or 250 per couple. BUT, I did not think anything of people who gave less!!! -
I always go more by what I can afford than what the norm is. I'm not willing to go broke on someone's gift, and I hope they understand that.

We give between 100-150 and more if we are close. I've never been to a NYC wedding, I think I would decline because I don't think I could afford the gift. I would feel bad if I gave my usual amount.

We give $100-$200 depending on the couple. I should also say that although I've been to quite a few NYC weddings, none of them were the "average" NYC wedding and were all well below those costs.

Holy crap! This is crazy!
I live in the Seattle area and there were only 5 people at our wedding who gave us more than $100. And we had 240 guests!

I haven't lived in NYC since 2004 and the US since 2008, but my rule of thumb is $150 per person. I lived in the NYC metro area.

We got married at The New York Botanical Garden in 2006 and just reception alone we paid about $150 pp. So I would give at least that much depending on where they are getting married at. One couple gave us $50 and another couple gave us $1k.
Either way we were just happy they were able to celebrate with us!
