Yum! We just had Pho for dinner the other night. Now that the weather is cooler we need to make a big batch again!

I still have yet to try pho...I really want to try it! @locavore_mama: lunch date? dinner date? double date? lol

@sarbear: haha either or! But it's in a shady part of town so we don't usually go there with LO at night. LOL And M loves it!

Pho is one of my faves now. I got so hooked that I took on the massive task of making my own. I made a HUGE batch of beef Pho stock and froze it in mason jars in my deep freeze... now I can just defrost the broth and add the noodles, beef and veggies whenever I want. mmmm.

It's perfect pho weather right now... I'm craving a big bowl with tons of bean sprouts, sawtooth herb, thai basil, and hoisin & sriracha!

Obsessed too! Although I'm not that adventurous and only get the Chin (brisket). Does anyone get the knuckles and intestines?
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@sheskrafty: yup, I always get the combo which also has tripe and beef balls.

@Mrs. High Heels: Your DH doesn't like PHO!!! *gasp*
We like pho but it's hard to eat at places with LO We wil probably try to go when he's a little older

@Urchin: is there anything special you do to make the soup? I just know my local place is MSG'ing it up and it would be cool to make my own.

@T-Mom: let me know if you want the recipe I use!

We have had great success with this recipe. We still. Can't figure out how to keep the broth scum free after adding the beef in! I feel like there is some easy fix to it that we can't grasp!

@Raindrop: i know, he's crazy! he says he doesn't like cilantro and fish sauce so he won't eat it. crazy talk!!

We have this pho place that we go to at least once a month, sometimes twice, sometimes three times. My LOs LOVE LOVE LOVE pho. They eat so well there that it's our favorite place.

@su9su9: haha mine does as well. Her favorite is the grilled pork chops!

@locavore_mama: Thank you for the recipe! Not sure how to avoid the scum. Maybe you could try rinsing your meat before hand? Or even soaking it (that's how I learned to minimize scum).

@locavore_mama: maybe I'll pass in pho...no beef balls for me lol

@T-Mom: I use this recipe: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Vietnamese-Pho-Rice-Noodle-Soup-with-Beef-232434
It's pretty time consuming, but like i said, it yields a lot of broth that can be frozen for later

@HabesBabe: I love Pho too! I think I read before that you make it for your LO. Do you put less seasoning it in for LO?
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Urchin: there are some great tips in that recipe!
Have you been able to get rid of the murkiness the beef adds to the broth?
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
we pho too!
if you haven't tried the cha gio (spring rolls), you need to!
coffee bean / 47 posts
@locavore_mama: I really didn't have an issue with murkiness when I made mine. There was a little scum on top, but with the tips in that recipe, I really had no problems with murky broth.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Urchin: my broth is never murky. It's when I add the raw beef in the scum from the beef makes the broth in my bowl murky.

@sarbear: @lovavore_mama: triple date??? The best restaurants are usually in the most obscure places!
