Yup, I'd be angry.

That would totally piss me off. But, I'm glad he retracted his statement. It sucks to travel for work and not having your spouse understand what you do while you travel. It's not all propping your feet up in a hotel bed eating room service.

@catomd00: I have to agree with you. I don't know how far he's traveling, but depending on when he gets to leave friday, that could be like 1.5 days away.

My husband has to go to conferences and stuff for work a lot and yeah, I resent it a little. Yes he's working but they always seem to be in nice hotels and stuff and just a few hours in a hotel room alone sounds amazing to me.

My first thought was that I'd be pissed. But trying to see it from the other side, it's completely exhausting to care for the kids solo for multiple days in a row. You may be working hard at your trips but eventually the workday comes to an end and you get to eat dinner in peace, chill in your hotel room, take a lunch break, etc. things that are unlikely to happen when you're at home with the kids.

This still doesn't really make it a fair comparison - his whole trip is about relaxing whereas probably 95% of your trip is spent on work. So I'm glad he took it back and is coming home when you asked him to, but maybe in the future a sitter or someone could come help out for part of Sunday when you're away for the weekend so that he gets a bit of a break. Really they're just two separate issues; I think he's letting the stress get to him. Hopefully the weekend away will help with that!

Sounds like a good opening for a discussion. I don't think his point is invalid but if your work trips are grueling take the time to explain why. Work trips have always been nice for me, free food in restaurants, mess free hotel, some down time, so maybe he's thinking of it that way. It's way more exhausting for me to take care of kids all weekend than traveling to a conference so I'd just explain to him what you do when you travel so he doesn't think its like that.

What considerations does he want exactly?

@plantains: I'm with you on not understanding why the boys' weekend needs to be limited. I understand that 3 nights is a long time, but he deserves a break too.

@Corduroy: Aah, well that is a totally different story then.

If this is like a once a year thing, I'd probably just suck it up and take the two hours off. DH takes a four night golf trip every year and now that LO is here I'll have to run around a little bit to do drop off/pick up and everything else. But it's not like he's going away once a month.

@Corduroy: I wouldn't take time off of work pre-baby for my DH to play video games. And I would not like it if he compared me working my butt off to playing video games all weekend.

Do they play video games in a hotel room? Is it a traveling video game convention or something?

@Corduroy: I agree with PP, I would say "go for it" however I would make it very clear you are not taking any additional time off work to make it happen. He either has to find someone to cover pick up/drop off or arrange it to be after his duties are done. taking time off work is not easy when we already ask for so much due to appointments, ect.

And I would make it clear that traveling for work is not a vacation, so this is not comparing apples to apples at all!

He should thank his lucky stars that he has such a cool wife. That shiz would not fly in my house
