That it would take this long. That I would be doing IUIs and going to accupuncture to increase my fertility chances. That I would be still trying to have my first at the age of 29. Sorry, infertility sucks.

I think the one thing I wish I had known before TTC began was how long this could really take. My husband and I got to a great place financially, mentally & physically which has been good for us as we continue to press forward on this long TTC journey. But if I had known that 20 months after we started, we still wouldn't be pregnant, I might have started sooner.

I wish I knew how long it would take, and that it is pretty NORMAL for it to take a while.
To wait until you've missed a period to take a test.
To not let people's asinine comments about starting a family bother me.

I wish I knew how long it would talk for my body to adjust after BC. I thought I'd get back to normal quickly and it's taking some time. Had I known this, I would've gone off the pill sooner.

I wish I knew it would take forever, and make you jealous and grumpy.

I used to be so excited when other people got KU. Now? I have to fake it, I am so jealous I can't find happiness.

1 year later and still not pregnant. I wish I knew how long this would take us. We would have started earlier. It doesn't help that we're in our late 20s and totally healthy. Unexplained infertility is the worst

As others have said, I was surprised at how long it would take to become pregnant. Everyone I knew got knocked up within the first 2 months so I didn't think it'd take us close to a year to actually have a sticky baby.

I agree with everyone who said to be prepared if it takes longer than expected. Also, trust your instincts when it comes to this. If you think something may be wrong, don't wait to see the doctor. I know that most people say to wait for a year of trying before seeking medical help, but really, if you think something is wrong, go to a doctor.

Also, take time before TTC to really enjoy being with your husband. My DH and I took trips, went wine tasting, did a bunch of fun stuff. We really solidified our connection. TTC is hard on both of you and really can take a toll on your relationship. If you are not in a good place, TTC will make it worse. I saw this with my BIL and his wife. I made sure that this wouldn't happen with me and DH. DH is the biggest support that I have (we have been TTC for 15 months now) and I couldn't imagine going through this with anyone else. Even if you don't have issues getting your BFP and get it right away, you will treasure this time that you had with your DH.

Ditto what JustDarling said about enjoying being with your husband. Two years of timing when you will have sex and then laying with your hips up in the air really takes its toll.

@MrsScottish: I wish I had taken the time to truly know where DH and I stood on the issue of getting pregnant - he really wasn't ready, but said he was just to appease me, and it led to a lot of problems. We are finally on the same page I think - but we went through a lot of unnecessary stress before we got to this place. Good luck!

Oh gosh so many things...so I picked 10 for now, lol.

1) it can take forever - it did for me; 2) chart from the beginning - you become more educated than your doctor this way and can pinpoint problems like PCOS early; 3) if you've done everything you can and 5-6 months in you still aren't pregnant, see someone for help - personally I prefer REs but you can go to an OB first; 4) your need for a baby so badly can give your DH performance anxiety - be patient with him; 5) research all of the vitamins you need once pregnant and start taking them months before you want to try; 6) you can drink while you try - your baby isn't linked to your blood supply right away; 7) try to avoid ibuprofen and other nsaid pain relievers; 8) buy wondfo pregnancy tests until you actually get something that looks like a positive - don't waste your money on the expensive ones; 9) a friend or family member will undoubtedly reveal they're pregnant while you're trying, causing a lot of frustration or anxiety; and 10) you're never fully "prepared", so don't put it off for too long waiting on financial security or that 100% readiness to be a parent.

Like others said, be prepared for it to take longer than expected, but also for it to take no time at all. We'd been all prepared for it to take months, so we were taken off guard when it happened the first time we tried. Make sure you're ready no matter when you get your BFP!

I wish I had known that once starting to TTC, I would become so in-tune with my body that I would pick up every single AF symptom known to woman. And that they would NOT turn out to be pregnancy symptoms!

Yes, it took us nearly a year for our BFP- that I'm fine with, I truly believe that we were waiting for the baby that was right for us. We were also able to gain more career and financial stability in that time. I'd wait for him a million times over again.

I think the biggest thing I wish I knew was how to learn to give up control. TTC feels like you have so little control on everything, but it only gets worse during pregnancy and parenting. It is his world, we just live in it now For much of pregnancy and the first year, I needed my husband's help with the house just to keep my head above water. Things didn't get done the way I would have done them- too bad for me, but at least they got done.

From the time that stick changed color, the baby has dictated my world- if I threw up, what I felt like eating, how tired or not tired I was, and it hasn't changed since the day he decided to finally grace us with his presence. We may make the most careful plans, but if he's sick, tired, or in a crappy mood- it doesn't fly. I may have to work the next morning, but babies don't care. It hasn't always been easy, but it has been an absolute blast these past two years (from bfp) getting to know him. He was adorable as a baby, but he is amazing growing into a real person.

I would say that I wish I knew that it would be OK to be 35 and TTC! For the longest time I stressed myself out thinking 35 was like the point of no return and if I didn't get pregnant by then the world would end! lol! YES...I have more things to consider but honestly most of the women I am super close with were/are 35+ when they had their first LO or were pregnant with their first. One of my closest friends just had her first baby at age 37.
