I don't know what happened tonight. I'm lying in my bed trying not to move because R just finally fell asleep. She went to bed fine as usual at 6:45 and woke up crying 20 minutes later. I went in, calmed her down, changed her diaper and tried to put her back to bed. Cue the hysterics. My mom stopped by and R refused to leave me. She was clinging to me for the past two hours. I finally just got her to fall asleep on our bed two hours past her bedtime at 9 PM. This hasn't happened since the newborn days. She's 11 months old. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar - I'd say it's separation anxiety. This was a tedious but effective strategy (per Penelope Leach) for me: I'd lay him down, go back in after a few minutes of crying (no more than three), give him a hug or rub his back and say "no, no, baby, night night," and walk out again. I'd never get him out of the crib unless he pooped or was sick. I would probably only stay on there less than 30 seconds. Just a quick comfort, then back out again. Rinse and repeat. If the cries became more whimpers or if he was just babbling to himself, I wouldn't go in. It only took a few nights, maybe a week, before it ended. Good luck!
