So I'm fairly new to OPKs, but I tested yesterday at 6:30 p.m. after holding it for 3 hours. The result was a stark-white OPK, a.k.a. negative! So... is it safe to assume that I'm NOT going to ovulate in the next day or so?? I would think if ovulation was even remotely on the horizon, the OPK would've shown SOMETHING and not been white, right??

I think usually, yes, the OPK would have probably showed somewhat of a line if you were close to O.
What cycle day are you?

I would agree with @pui:. FWIW, I never got a true positive with OPKs...just temping.

I THOUGHT I had ovulated already based on CM, CP, and a slight temp raise, but FF took my cross-hairs away and CM and CP are now indicating ovulation in my future AGAIN, but OPK was negative, so I'm confused...

I'm so sorry you're going through this!! VERY frustrating!! I have next to no knowledge for OPKs but I would assume stark white means no surge. Does it say anything on the package?

Honestly I think the first month you need to test in the am and the pm. Some people get a surge in the am and it can be gone by the pm testing.......

I'd test twice a day so you don't miss your surge.

@HellOnHeels: It just said that white or a line that was fainter than the control line meant negative! Ugh.
@Smurfette: Yeah, I've heard that you should test twice. I only have this one package of 7 tests (I ordered more) and I only took one last night because I've had watery CM the last couple days and it felt like my cervix was higher and softer than before. Sigh.

I only ever like to use digitals. Do you ovulate fairly regularly?

@Smurfette: That's my plan! Ordered a bunch of wondfo OPKs so if this cycle doesn't pan out (please fertility goes, let it pan out), then I will be testing 2-3 times a day!!!
@MrsMcD: This is only my second cycle postpartum, so I'm going to go with no, haha. Prebaby - yes! I was very regular. But last cycle I ovulated CD 36 and this cycle... who knows what's happening!
@Ash: Yeah, I'm thinking I might have to! I might try to squeeze in a BD in the next couple days just in case, but Hubs and I both sick of it, so I'm not even sure it will happen!

@Smurfette: Curious as to what it means if the surge is gone by the afternoon? Does that mean your window is gone by the afternoon?

@Freckles: I never really understood the timing of the surge and when you really ovulate. But I just remember reading some people have surges for say 12 hours. So if you take a test at 6pm and then again the next night, you can miss it cause your body's might be in the AM. I know myself, I would get a positive in the afternoon and then next afternoon it was almost stark white. So I am not sure if it would show up as a positive in the am.

@Freckles: @Smurfette: It's my understanding that you have your surge 24-72 hours before you ovulate. So you could miss seeing the surge, but not miss ovulating!
And I think if this cycle doesn't pan out, I'll just POAS every time I'm in the bathroom, haha.

@Adira: Have you been tracking cycles for a while? If so, how long are your cycles normally?
IMO, based on your chart looks like you O'd CD26ish. Maybe the high temps at the beginning of your cycle is throwing it off? What if you remove some of those temps?

@pui: This is only my second cycle postpartum. I charted pre-baby and my cycles were always 28-29 days long with ovulation around CD 15/16. Post-baby, the only cycle I've had was 44 days with ovulation on CD 36 and a 7 day LP. I'm still waiting to see how this cycle turns out!
I haven't tried removing those early temps, BUT I did have cross-hairs on FF indicating I ovulated CD 30. But FF took them away when I entered my temp this morning.
I personally was thinking maybe I ovulated CD 27/28 because I had a soft cervix and my watery CM stopped. BUT I've been having watery CM again, so now I'm not sure what's happening!

@Adira: Hmm... It is possible you actually haven't O'd yet. I see a temp shift, but it isn't a big one. It's likely your cycles are still evening out!

@pui: *cries* Yes, I agree (and so does FF)! I was just really hoping I had ovulated already (and hence the stark white OPK) because Hubs and I are sick of DTD!!!

I think you've gotten good answers, so I'm not chiming in on it, but I just wanted to say that it seems so strange to me that so many of ya'll get stark white opk's. I've NEVER had one that didn't have some sort of line, no matter when I took them. I wonder why.

@Torchwood: It probably depends on the brand of OPK! Someone posted a picture of an OPK once with the instructions and it looked like that brand always showed something and that if it was blank, then it was invalid! But the brand I'm using, blank or a light line means negative. So I guess it just depends on the type you use!
