I would not be comfortable with anyone kissing my LO on the lips! I would also be worried about germs!

Um ew no, I don't like the idea of other people kissing your baby on the lips. Especially not a stranger! Since it was on the Alzheimer's ward I would give the man the benefit of the doubt as he may not be in the most appropriate frame of mind and he also grew up in a different time. Your mom shouldn't be offering your LO up as a sacrificial lamb to the Kissing Gods though. Talk to her. My friend suffers from herpes simplex 1 because her grandmother kissed her on the lips when she was an infant and transmitted the disease. It's just not fair.

Family members such as my parents or siblings I'm happy to kiss on the lips. Friends etc if they ask for a kiss goodbye or something Id say "kissy on the cheek when it's not mummy or daddy remember" to my LO, people would catch on its something I'm unhappy about.
A complete stranger I would definitely state not to kids LO on the lips, if I didn't want to be impolite I'd say s/he is recovering from a horrible cold or something, but I'm honest I wouldn't feel rude telling someone not to kiss LO anyway.

@LulaBee: Now that I think of it, my mom rarely kisses us on the lips. She says it's unhygienic. Maybe you can just tell them that you spoke with her pediatrician and there are so many diseases that can spread very easily to your LO that the adult carrier may not even know they have, which is true. Like Whooping Cough for example (or herpes, but I doubt you want to tell your mom that). Just be firm, there will likely be hurt feelings, but just come at it from a medical and hygiene standpoint.

If LO is old enough, you could also teach her to say no kissing on the lips

haha, i see you added the disclaimer that you're pregnant because i thought the fact that you cried over it was a bit of an overreaction ! But that being said, I DO think it's inappropriate for strangers to kiss LOs on lips. Just...yuck.

I get very upset when my FIL kisses LO on the lips because we don't. I totally understand why that upset you.

as far as the kissing on the lips, I've posted about that a few times myself, lol. I just started telling people (my family outright, and more gently to ILs) about how I'm teaching her to kiss on the cheek because of the new baby coming, that is how germs are shared, etc. so far they are following the rules! I was more blunt with my family but there's serious history of draaaama with the ILs so I had to be careful.

I didn't even know people did this until HB! In my family, DH's family and our circles, kissing on the lips is for romantic partners only so if anyone kissed lo on ths lips I would find it unsettling to say the least so I totally understand. You could do what I used to do when my LO was little and strangers used to try to reach into his stroller to touch him (nutters!) and say - Oh don't touch him, he's a biter!" and laugh it off. I get that it's harder with family though, I think @sorrycharlie's suggestion is a good one.

I would not LIKE that but I do not think you can get mad at a man with Alzheimer's for doing it. So, I think you did overreact if you cried the whole way home. Maybe try and think of the moment of joy that man had, he probably doesn't have many.

I would totally be weirded out if it were a stranger.

Other family members/close friends kiss LO (19 months) on the lips and it doesn't bother me really. 99.9% of the time they ask LO for a kiss. He either leans his head out for a kiss on the cheek or makes a kissy face for a kiss on the lips. Sometimes he even says no and I say "ok you don't have to if you don't want to". Most of the time he wants one on the cheek. I feel like because it's on his terms I am ok with it. Sometimes when I drop him off with MIL he doesn't want to give me a goodbye kiss and she presses him to give me one and I tell him he doesn't have to.

Though if they were sick/cold sore I would not let it happen. And for sure not a stranger!

I don't like lips or hands. M has his hands in his mouth 24/7 so I've had to ask people to help keep his hands clean. I know I sound annoying, but I don't care.

I'd be really upset about the car seat. My parents did stupid things with mine when they were watching M during my hospital stay. I was steaming mad they had adjusted it the way they did.

I only kiss my own baby on the lips, I would never kiss anyone else's baby on the lips so I expect people to behave the same way around my child. I think in that instance, you can't really blame the man with Alzheimer's for doing it, I might be annoyed at your mum for making it so easy for him to do though. If I think someone I don't know is going to try touch LO, I try move the stroller away a little to make it harder for them, not lift her up to them. Obviously she didn't know what he was going to do but maybe having a word with your mom about how you feel might mean in future she's more aware.
