We introduced the paci at the hospital after his circ, and only in the car after that if he was upset. He won't and hasn't taken it since he was about 3 weeks old. He prefers sucking on his forearm. Btw LO is 6 weeks old.

We have tried a pacifier from day 1. At first she didn't like it. Now I think she will be she doesn't get it. Spits it out. Will suck on it when half asleep but then she gets mad it isn't Mommy's boob.

we tried at 4 weeks and she wouldn't take it. kept trying, and she will occasionally take it- but usually only in the car or carrier to fall asleep. I actually wish we had tried a little earlier, because I think it would be helpful in getting her to nap alone. We use natursutten pacifiers. she hates avent pacifiers. we haven't tried nuks.

We started a soothie at 2.5 weeks. He loves it. Won't take it if he's hungry. No problems here!

The LCs at our hospital suggest pacifiers for preemie & lazy nursers to encourage the baby's suck reflex.

@Revel: Glad to hear you were able to introduce the pacifier!! I know all the advice is to wait like 4 weeks, but I think a lot of times when people do that, the baby won't take it! We introduced at 2.5 weeks and have been soooo happy to have done that! My boobs needed a break and Xander likes the pacifier just fine! If he's actually hungry, he just immediately spits the pacifier back out, but it's so nice to have something to use when he just wants to suck on something and I need a break! It also helped us when we were trying to get Xander to sleep through the night, so I hope your LO will keep taking it!
