I have received a package for the old owner of my home and I contacted her to let her know. She came and picked it up.

I also once opened (by mistake) a misdelivered package for my next door neighbor. I was expecting some things from Amazon and opened up all the boxes we received. I taped it up and apologized when I brought it over.

I think there are honest people out there! Hopefully they just didn't want to open the door at the time you came.

Honestly I'd just show up again when they were home, knock on the door and when they answered it explain. I know you left a note, but persistence may help you here. Let them know you have delivery confirmation so they can't say that they didn't get it.

That will be really terrible if they keep your package! At the very least, they should return to sender, saying no such person lives at this address! I would leave them another note asking them to please either get in touch with you to arrange for collection, or return it to Target.

If still no word, I'd contact the local police and ask what you can do - if you can prove that it was delivered, then their keeping it is clearly a violation of postal laws that prohibit people from opening or tampering with other people's mail, right?

I hope they do the right thing - keeping someone else's package is so wrong, regardless of the circumstances. This isn't preschool playground politics of finders keepers so hopefully they step up and do the right thing here

I would return the package because it's illegal and immoral not to, but beyond what I would do I have to think most people wouldn't want to keep clothes meant for someone else. The chances if new tenant having the same size/taste as you are slim, and how much money would they possibly make trying to sell them? All that to say I'm thinking there is a good chance you can get them back!

That really sucks! Make sure you take someone with you if you knock on the door. Do you have a good relationship with the landlord or someone who works in the office? If so, maybe they would go with you to knock on the door.

I've returned or tried to return things. We got a package once, and I held onto it for a few days to see if anyone would leave a note. Post office also didn't know what to do when I called them. It's still sitting in my garage, unopened.

We had a packaged delivered right before Christmas for the old owners. I phoned the company it was from- I had not opened it, and they tracked down the person who sent it so they could re-send it. I asked how do I send it back and they told me not to worry, it was perishable so to enjoy it and thank you for being honest. Then the lady laughed at me and said " I just noticed you are in Canada. That explains it." I didnt know what to say to that. So I just said thank you and hung up. It was some fancy pears, cookies and chocolate covered apple slices. The next day the old owner showed up at the house asking if a package was delivered. I felt like an idiot as it was already open and half eaten!!! I explained to him what the company said- I dont think he was impressed, but then left. I never told him that I ate it! I just said that there was no way for us to contact him!!!

I accidentally had an expensive garmin watch delivered to my old apartment and I went through the leasing office, and bothered them every day until they got ahold of the tenant and got my package for me.

We moved to a different state during our wedding planning phase, and completely forgot to change our address on our Macy's registry. Well someone bought half of our china and it got sent to the old address. The person was nice enough to call my aunt who sent it to us, and fed ex came back and picked it up and it was sent back to us. Hoping that the person that received it is nice enough to call you!

We just received a special Saturday delivery package for the last owners of our house. We didn't have a forwarding address so we called the sellers agent and got contact info.

At Christmas I was sent two of something I ordered. One with my name and one with another. The company sent me a new shipping label with the other person's address. I thought that was weird because it became my responsibility to make sure someone else got their Christmas present in time. But I did it. There is hope!

Definitely call the apartment office. There might be a good chance your package is there.

@MrsRoo: I had to be pushy. I called couple of days in a row and it didn't seem like they had gotten ahold of resident so I started calling twice a day and being pushy. Magically my package was available when they were annoyed enough with me it was a $200 item though so I was willing to be annoying.

I would return it! That's so wrong! Did you leave a forwarding address?

I would absolutely return it. I think it's bad karma to not return it.

I will be honest, the most I would do is put the package out on the front porch with a note to return to sender. I hate to say it, but it's not my problem to track down who it belongs to and I also wouldn't want it in my house. You never know what weird stuff people are up to.

We had packages delivered to both our current and old house for the previous owners so we either brought them to the post offuce or had the mail man take them. Is there a possibility that happened and Target just hasn't received it yet? I returned something by UPS to Target once and it took a MONTH for them to acknowledge that they received it.

It sucks that Target won't work with you. This happened to me before, I ordered contacts and accidentally sent them to an old address. I contacted them and even though it was my mistake, then sent a new order to me at no additional cost. I have no idea if the contacts were returned to sender - it was in a different state.

I would try Target again or even go in-person to the service counter. Employees at my local target are SO much better than the customer service I get through the phone.
