Anyone else have a book ripper? This is DD2's second time to rip a library book I thought I had them out of reach but she's gotten taller and grabbed one while I was cooking dinner.

My 11 month old managed to rip a small chunky board book in half and it was a hand me down that had survived other book ripping children.

@Mrs. Goose: 3 board books have been ripped in half at my house. THREE! She won't fall asleep without a book in her bed....that's how that happened.
@babypugs: seriously. WHYYYY?!?

I have a page tearing, book eating 13 month old. She loves books, so I hate to take them all away, but she simply destroys them. Paperbacks, board books, doesn't matter. I know babies chew books, but she eats them, picks a page, bites, and munches away.

@Mrs. Sunshine: My DD2 has also ripped a couple of library books. She always manages to get ahold of her big sister's library books. She has destroyed so many of our own board books too. She peels the page off of the cardboard! I hope she grows out of this stage soon.

Might be time for a time out from library books and a switch for e-books until lesson learned.

@Mrs. Sunshine: Oh man, DD just insisted on taking a book to bed for the first time tonight. I hope she doesn't get into any shenanigans with it!

We stopped letting DS1 take board books to bed when he naps because he destroyed them. He handled it better than I thought he would. We don't have lift the flap books anymore and have to watch him closely with non board books. The other day he was tearing up his coloring book which is not as bad as his reading books. I was sad when he destroyed his Elmo lift the flap ABC book.

@Mrs. Sunshine: eek. Hopefully she won't start wanting a book in bed. Haha. She loves books though. It's cute to watch her "read" to herself.

This is very timely..my 2 year old is loving taking books to bed recently. Just yesterday when I got her from her nap, she had peeled the entire paper cover off of the cardboard of a board book. After I was finished being annoyed, I was pretty impressed with how neatly she did it - all one piece with no tears!

I thought my page ripper had outgrown his habit, but he still does it at 3! Weirdly he only rips his 2 favorite books during nap time
