We are getting ready to have a party and I'm making a list of people. I have a few family members that live close but I don't have any contact with... would you invite them?

No. I don't have any family close by that we don't speak to, but if I did I'd leave them out unless it was a huge, huge party.

No, I have a cousin who lives in the same city as me, and we never see each other or speak really for that matter. We were never close growing up and even further apart as adults.

We have a rocky relationship with my BIL but we will probably send him an invite that he will probably ignore! Sigh...

i guess it depends on whether or not you want to have a relationship with them. i usually try to invite family, because for me, it feels like the right thing to do, but that wouldn't be true for everyone. i invited my grandmother to my wedding because i really wanted her to be there, but i had little hope that she would come, and she didn't. i felt better knowing i had made to gesture of inviting her.
