I wouldn't pay extra! W won't notice!

I can't vote-- as an outsider, it's easy for me to say you are being silly and just get the plain purple cups and napkins and deal with it. BUT, I know the 1st birthday is really important and even if she doesn't remember it, you will! So I say go with what makes you happy-- and $19 isn't really that much if it is what makes you happy

When it comes to plates, cups, and napkins, I'm a cheapo, and would just get plain pink/purple plates from Walmart or somewhere, but splurge on other decorations.

But I think you should go with what will make you happy, especially if you plan on getting lots of pictures - you'll have to look at those plates for the rest of your life.

I don't think $19 is very much for expedited shipping, but you could always go to a local store and see if there's anything you like before placing the order. I don't think the designs on the plates/cups is a huge deal, but the first birthday part is just as much for you as for her, so don't be afraid to get what you love :).

I'm in the 'she won't notice' camp, though I do believe in making yourself happy in these things. But that's an awful lot just for a different color. I've never understood the point of going all out for a first birthday, though.

@BabyBoecksMom: I voted to get the one you want and spend on shipping. Obviously she won't notice, but you and your guests will! I think decorated plates, napkins and cups are super fun, and I think it's necessary when you're doing minimal decorations. I did exactly what you are doing for Wagon Jr.'s 2nd birthday party-- a few red and blue balloons, no streamers (man they are a PAIN to put up!), a few hanging baseball themed decorations and baseball plates/napkins/cups.

@adira gave you an awesome list! I really love tissue poms (like you're already planning) and tassel garlands too. You could also do a pennant banner.

What kind of food are you planning? You could use decorative picks for the food and cute coordinated signage.

I feel that plates and cups make less of an impact than other details like the pom poms, etc that you were mentioning, that you could diy, so that's what I would do! I did a DIY banner on the wall that spelled out Happy Birthday DD using scrapbooking paper and it turned out really well. Good luck!

I am frugal so I voted get plain colors, no one will notice! I'd rather put the money into something else like photos, food or a nice gift for LO
