Our cat, Olive, has had persistent urination problems and at this point, we're at a loss and hoping for some perspectives.

Olive has been peeing on rugs and carpets since she was a kitten (she's 7 years old now), we've been able to briefly deter her behavior through various measures like removing the area rug, placing foil down, moving her litter box, giving her more litter boxes, shampooing carpets, etc. Recently we've attempted kitty prozac on top of all of these measures, we use special Cat Attract litter, and always make sure that her litter boxes are clean.

Whenever we try something new, she pees in her box for a few weeks and then we catch her peeing on the carpet again. We're simply at a loss as to what to do at this point.

We have an 18 month old and a new baby due in September, and she does great with our daughter and our daughter loves her, but we cannot continue to replace area rugs and steam clean carpets every month. We honestly don't know what to do anymore; it feels like we've tried everything!

It breaks my heart, but I wonder if this home, which is about to become even more chaotic, is the best place for Olive at this point. Do you have any suggestions for us? We don't want to put her down for her behavioral problems, but we also don't feel comfortable rehoming her to another unsuspecting family that will likely encounter the same issues we have had for the past 7 years. Though, maybe she would do better in a different home.

I feel stuck. Have any of you been there, done that? What did you end up doing?

Please know that whatever we end up deciding, we will likely do this with heavy hearts, so be kind to me.
