This is one of my biggest pet peeves! I e-mail my friends and ask them questions and they DON'T RESPOND!!! How, in this day and age, with all of them having smartphones, are they NOT responding to my e-mails???
Anyone else get annoyed by this??

What kind of questions? Are they urgent and important? I text for stuff like that. It annoys me when they don't respond to questions via text. I don't really email my friends much though...

That is a peeve of mine too. I think it's rude not to send a response within a couple of days. I have a friend who sometimes doesn't respond to my emails at all and it hurts a little because I know she saw it, but clearly it wasn't important enough to her to write back.

@JennyD: I'm trying to organize a shopping trip for this Saturday (or Sunday), so I'd really like to know when these girls are free or if they even want to go, so I can make plans for whichever day we DON'T go shopping.
I don't have a texting plan, so I don't text stuff to people (and all my friends know this).
@Modern Daisy: I've complained a couple times to my friends about this, so they know it annoys me. They always have the same excuse though "Oh, I saw it on my iphone, but I didn't want to type up a long respond via phone, and then I forgot to respond."

Yeah, it bugs me. I rarely email my friends and just text these days.

This reminds me of a time I had a friend e-mail ME complaining that I never tried to get together with her, and then I had to point out that I HAD tried to make plans with her and she just never responded to my e-mail! Her respond to that was "Oh, I saw the e-mail but I didn't want to do _____, so I didn't respond." WTF??

I get annoyed by this when I'm at work. But I'm a total hypocrite, too, because sometimes I read emails and forget to respond.

I have a friend that is like this and she has a smart phone so I know she gets the messages! She's just crazy though. She will text but not email.

I'm totally guilty of this. I am terrible sometimes... but it's usually because I see the email on my phone, plan to email them later from my laptop, and then forget. I just hate typing emails on my phone or ipad, and I'd usually rather just talk on the phone or in person anyway. I'm trying to be better about it though, I always feel really bad when I realize it's been a few days and I forgot to respond to someone.
The worst for me is facebook messages; I do NOT check them... maybe like once a month. I always tell my friends to please not message me there because I'll never see it (I have the email alerts disabled) but they do it anyway. I don't feel bad about not responding to those, though.

My friend usually texts back to my emails.. i hate typing on my phone so i sometimes email, but if she is on her phone she will respond via text because she only has a certain amount of data.
I get more annoyed with work stuff. I will email a super simple question to my boss and never hear back! He is glued to his blackberry.. so i don't know why he couldn't write back a quick response!

@alie: I'm guilty of this too for the same reasons
Or I'll read the email, get busy and then completely forget to respond until later.

Yes, it really bugs me. How hard it is to respond? I know they all have email on their phones!

@Running Elley: I'm glad I'm not the only one!!!
Honestly for me, even those I have email on my phone, that doesn't mean it's easy to respond. I am always running from place to place for appointments and meetings, and my only time to type on my phone is in my car inbetween things. Usually during that time I just scan through to see if there's anything urgent. If it's just an email from a friend saying "Hi, I'm bored at work", then I'm not going to be late for my next meeting to respond. Maybe that's mean, but oh well. I'll write back when I can (or... when I remember to) or more likely I'll just call later in the day. I'd almost always rather talk than type.

@alie: I can totally understand being too busy to respond. One of my friends is a teacher, so I honestly don't expect her to respond during the day, because I know she's busy. Another one works in a lab, so I'm assuming she might not even have her phone on her. But one of them works in an office at a computer all day, just like me, so I don't know why she can't respond. And even if they didn't respond during the day, why can't they respond in the evening when they are home?? It takes like 2 minutes to respond to an e-mail!

@Adira: Totally understandable - I get really irritated when my sister doesn't respond to email and/or facetime. She is as a social media consultant; she is literally ALWAYS on the computer.
I'm sure my friends get annoyed because my schedule is so erratic. Some days (like today) I really am home with my laptop all day and can respond quickly but other days I'm just on overdrive everywhere else and have no time for anything. It's probably annoying to get a quick response from me one day and then not hear from me for a while after.

Sometimes when I don't respond too it's because I only have a minute or two and I know that's long enough to respond to an email but I REALLY want to be able to put more thought/time into the response. So I wait until I have that time and then....I either don't have the time or I forget!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
I get annoyed when that happens and follow up with them via text. If the email is urgent, I text them after I send the email to notify them that I sent them an email about XYZ and to get back to me ASAP.

@alie: I'm guilty for the same reason. I see the email on my phone, but it's too challenging to respond from the phone. I mean to do it when I get home from the laptop or the ipad but by the time I get home, i've either forgotten or the email's already on the second page.

I find it way more annoying when I message people on BBM or facebook messenger, they read it (and therefore I get a message saying that they read it) and THEN they don't respond. I know you saw it, answer meeeeeeeeeee!

I dont check my emails often even though I do have a smart phone, I would much rather receive a text, than email

Yes, this drives me nuts! I'm in a writing group with three of my friends, and two of them take several prodding emails to actually respond when we're trying to figure out what dates and times work for all of us.

i hate when people don't reply either. my day job is all emailing, so i feel like everyone should be on the same speed as i am!

It's one of my pet peeves too, but at the same time...are we becoming the generation that's "too" accessible?
Checking personal email, checking work email, checking missed calls, checking texts, checking IMs, checking fb messages, checking fb wall, checking old personal email, checking snail mail, checking whatsapp, checking voice messages...it does get a bit overwhelming!

I'm so guilty of this. Although I'll usually emails on my phone, I prefer to type them out on my laptop so I'll wait until I get a moment in the evening to respond, but then I'll get busy with something or my inbox will pile up and I'll miss the email at the bottom. D'oh. I do want to work on being more timely w/emails, though.

I hate this! I also hate when people don't respond to txts. Ugh!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
Yup. Super annoying. What's funny, is I don't understand why it's easier to respond by text than by email. It's the same thing, isn't it? Words on a screen?
