If you got your infant's ears pierced, how old were they when you did it and where did you get it done?

We didn't do it. I didn't pierce my ears until I was 16, so I feel like I"ll wait and see when LO wants to do it before we get it done.

If we have a girl I won't let her pierce her ears until at least elementary school, and it would have to be something she asked for, not something we decided for her.

My parents got my ears pierced when I was 2yo. I will probably wait until LO expresses an interest in having them pierced and can take care of them.

My oldest had her's pierced at 5months old. My youngest 2 years old and then again at 3years old and now has closed holes because she wouldn't leave them alone lol

I'm not planning on doing this, but I have heard that many pediatricians will do it in their office.

If I have a girl I will wait until she asks for them and she's old enough to help take care of them. My niece got hers when she was 5, and it was her decision!

I'm planning on doing it around 3 months if the paediatrician says it is okay

Oh wow. Didn't even think about this! I got mine pierced when I was a few weeks old at the hospital and I've always been happy with the fact that I got mine pierced so early so that I wouldn't remember the pain. Not sure what I'm gonna do with my daughter's ears though.

Sorry, but I cringe when I see an infant with pierced ears. And my niece got hers done at 6mo old If/when I have a daughter, it won't get done until she asks for it.

Mine will have to be at least 5 years old, and decide for herself. I'm allergic to something used in most cheap earrings, so it was better for my mom that the pain and irritation was my own doing, and I was never upset with her about it. Most hangnails cause me more pain than the initial piercing did, though.

@MsMamaBear : I'm curious about your experience. Where did you get the earrings? Did the ped just use a needle? Did LO seem bothered by the new earrings (play with them)? What was the aftercare?
My preference is to have it done at the dr's office and intend to ask the question at her 9mo visit this week.

@His Barista: Me too, but I lucked out and got a boy, so I don't have to decide.

If I have a baby girl I won't be getting her ears pierced. I'm allergic to most metals and don't want to risk putting her through pain if she is too. I also don't really like the look of earrings on babies.

@MamaG: The doctor uses a little gun thing. He has earrings because they are special kind and they will not let you use yours until 6wks after. My mom had bought her diamonds.LOL I just cleaned her ears everyday and turned them. I work, so every morning when we woke up, I did it then. It was quite easy for me. She's never touched her ears at all. She doesn't know they are there. (8 months old now.)
