I am interested in this! I asked for wood/felt food toys for LO and he got plastic food instead. But he seems to like it for now, but I have nothing to compare it to.

We have Melissa & Doug wood play food, and it's cute, but one word of caution: the paint can come off if your LO bangs it hard enough. If I had a do-over, I might buy plastic instead.

@Mrs. Yoyo: Thanks for the tip! DD isn't very gentle and already likes to bang things together so I'll probably go with mostly felt. But this Melissa & Doug wooden sushi set looks pretty good!

She likes her wood and plastic food the most.

My LO is 10 months old so we have stuck to felt food so far. It's nice that he can chew on them for teething. Only issue we've had is that lint and cat fur stick VERY easily to them, so I do have to lint roll them every couple weeks or so.

We have wood and plastic. DS plays with both and doesn't seem to have a preference. Completely agree with @Mrs. Yoyo. We have some M&D food and the paint is chipping.

We haven't bought any for our 2 year old yet but it's on his birthday and Christmas list this year. We'll stick to wood when we purchase it.

@Crumbs: we have that since the pieces are smaller the paint thing isn't as big a deal ... It's mostly with the pots and big pantry items. But especially the pots!

@Mrs. Yoyo: how does your LO like the sushi set? I'm debating if I should get the wok set instead.

@Crumbs: He prefers the bigger stuff. Wok stuff might be more fun at a younger age since they can toss everything in and stir?

I want to get LO a play kitchen someday so this is something I should think about. I like the look of some of the wood ones, but I am sure plastic is easier to come by and not as expensive.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I should hold off on the wooden pieces for now then and see how she plays with the felt (Ikea) pieces I have so far.
I'm putting together her kitchen for her 1st birthday and getting a little excited about stocking it But it's interesting how the poll is going because it seems like it doesn't really matter to the kids. It makes me want to find more realistic plastic ethnic foods.

We have all three, he plays with them equally. The plastic, I'll be honest, was the cheapest and I am no longer as worried that he puts things in his mouth.
I adore the Melissa and Doug Sushi set, if I see it locally, I am totally getting it!

We play with plastic but I might get some felt too now with a baby in the house

No idea yet, although we plan on getting LO a kitchen and play food next Christmas. But I have heard to avoid felt if you have pets as it's a hair magnet!
