Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours to everyone in this thread

I'm out ladies. Didn't even make it to December.

@MoonMoon: I'm so sorry. How long are your cycles, will your next POAS date be in the end of December or will the new year bring you a new chance?

  7. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@yellowbeach: @crazydoglady: @paranundrum: thank you ladies. I'm feeling so down, and the snowstorm and late might work hours aren't helping either.

-the acupuncture went well. The practitioner happened to be the Dr in charge of the infertility clinic, which was a surprise (the spa is linked to one of our infertility practices). So even though I'm not officially a patient we had an interesting talk.

This cycle only ended up being 25 days, so my cycles are short and getting shorter. So far all my lab results are within normal range but clearly something isn't right. Next steps are to wait for DH semen analysis results (lab said Monday), have my HSG (12/6), and see how to proceed. If we try as normal my POAS date will be in late December, but I'm losing hope in the "normal" path.

Thank you all for lending an ear.

@MoonMoon: I'm sorry. Just curious, how long did it take you to conceive baby 1? How long have you been trying for #2?

  9. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@crazydoglady: about 4-5 months, if I remember correctly.

@MoonMoon: I can't find it, but while I was TTC #2, I found an IVF clinic that said that by age 35, the odds of getting a quality egg is something like 10% each cycle. So, it's playing the odds with each cycle until you hit the "jackpot." I really hope it happens soon!

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@crazydoglady: thank you! Yes I was 33 when ttc the first time and now I'm 40...I don't want to take any time for granted, because I'm aware of our dwindling odds!

@MoonMoon: I’m so sorry! I feel I might be not far behind....I’ve been plagued by negatives the last few days.... i hit all the targets dammit!-3, -1, O, O+1... so frustrating

  13. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@chypmunk: oh no, I sincerely hope not! I know how frustrating these repeated negatives can be

@MoonMoon: I'm sorry you are feeling down, but I think it's good you still have DH's lab results and your HSG to look forward to, as in you still have steps you can take that may give you a BFP. You're not in the end of the road yet.

@chypmunk: I'm sorry, that must be frustrating. I hope you get that BFP soon!

I'll have to see if I can find the article again, but December is statically the most fertile month of the year.

@Sams Mom: Well, it can't be much worse than November anyway, no way but up from there. Oprah better be here soon with BFPs for everyone!

@paranundrum: It is really interesting how the s seem to come in waves.

Is everyone going to be able to hit their O targets with the holidays and travel and such?

Does anyone have experience working night shift or off shift, and any effects on cycles/fertility? My OB says it shouldn't make a difference but the fertility Dr said it wouldn't hurt to switch to day shift. Even if I put in for days and was accepted, it could take months to switch.

I was on mostly days for orientation on a new unit, and I ovulated CD14 (instead of CD16/17) which I was so excited about. Could have just been a fluke, but now I'm back on nights and worried.

@MoonMoon: Oh don't get me started on this topic (I'm convinced working 6 weeks of nights lead to my HELLP/PreE)... Not exactly the same, but here's some interesting literature on effects of 1st trimester and 3rd trimester pregnancy and nightshift contributing to preterm labor. This is a published recommendation for women in Emergency medicine, but I have to imagine it has some relevance for other fields, and maybe even TTC/fertility.

@yellowbeach: thank you for that article! I'm sorry you went through HELLP and pre-E, that is rough. The link between night shift work and miscarriage they mentioned is scary, in addition to other adverse events mentioned. More than anything, I think I'm becoming fixated on night work as bad for my health, which may become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I have to gather the courage to ask my manager if I can move to days or evenings instead of overnights I think...

I'm on the way out too. I started spotting yesterday and will get AF later today or tomorrow. Tomorrow would be nice, because I don't have to go anywhere.

We have our IVF counseling next Tuesday. AF next cycle will probably start on the first day of 2020 and then...all systems are go, we'll be starting IVF.

@paranundrum: well, I wish it would happen for you naturally, but I will say I’m happy for you to start IVF and get to take back some level of control. Hugs!

  27. paranundrum

    clementine / 811 posts

@skiierchck99: I wish it could be easier for us too, but on the other hand I might be pregnant in as soon as a month and a half! I might have a baby this time next year! I know it's also possible for everything to go horribly wrong (and I wouldn't be surprised with our luck...), but I'm choosing to remain hopeful.

  28. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@paranundrum: I'm sorry to hear that! But excited about the start of the IVF journey for you... I love the thought of your baby this time next year!

  29. MoonMoon

Couple of updates: HSG today, all looked good. Nobody told me that this procedure is painful, ouch!

But the other news, semen analysis results don't look so great. I haven't talked to the Dr yet but the lab report showed below normal for motility, morphology, and vitality, so... I guess we know what the problem is. I don't know what next steps are yet. Does this mean IVF is the only option?

  30. crazydoglady

    nectarine / 2431 posts

@MoonMoon: No advice on the IVF front, but I hope you feel better getting some answers. I am still very hopeful for you!

  31. paranundrum

    clementine / 811 posts

@MoonMoon: I'm sorry the HSG was a pain.

About the semen analysis - we're in the same boat. My issues are easily controlled by meds, but my SO has all the problems possible with his swimmers. The first step for him was the analysis, then the repeat analysis to confirm the results and bloodwork in addition. Then they looked over all of the labs together, I guess in some cases hormones are just out of balance and meds help. My SO has been on meds for a few months by now and there has been some change for the better, but not nearly enough to give us any hope for natural conception. We were put on the waiting list for IVF right after my doctor saw his first semen analysis results though, I guess she has some experience.

I hope it's easier for you, but hey, anything for a baby, right?

  32. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@crazydoglady: thanks. That means a lot! I'm not ready to give up yet, esp since I haven't had a chance to chat with the Dr.

  33. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@paranundrum: I'm sorry we're in the same boat! Thank you for sharing what some of the next steps look like. I have to admit I'm rather impatient. If our chances for natural conception are low, at our ages, I'd rather just jump to assisted technologies, you know ?

  34. paranundrum

    clementine / 811 posts

@MoonMoon: I understand. We've actually been TTC for six and a half years... I'm not terribly impatient, but enough is enough. I have never had a BFP, not even a squinter.

We took it really easy for about two years, then turned to the doctors, but didn't go all the way, we had a crappy year and it didn't seem responsible to have a baby at that moment. We turned back to the specialists in April of this year and hopefully it all will end with a BFP really soon.

  35. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@paranundrum: I hope you get that BFP! Soon!
