What is the purpose of a poke on Facebook? I have one from my aunt, a guy I went to high school with and a girl I talked to about home birth. Not sure what these people have in common!

When someone pokes you its private - no one else can see the poke. I think it is supposed to be taken as an actual poke.. like poking someone in real life. Maybe their way of saying hello.

i have no idea! i don't get them. there is a girl that 'pokes' DH, kinda makes me wanna poke her back, with a closed hand... in her face! kidding! kind of

Pokes started waayyyyy back in the day, like it was one of the original features on FB.. yeah i think it's just to say "hi".

I never understood the poking thing either. My cousin's wife always posts about how she's the queen of poke wars, but I've always just ignored them. If you want to get my attention, than say hi or something....
