Post Partum Get in Shape Thread!

So I'm 7 weeks post partum, and while the weight is melting off... boy do I hate the muffin top. No clothes fit properly because of it (but I know I can't up a size because it won't fit when my stomach does go back)

I've actually lost 27 lbs, and I'm 20 lbs thinner than pre-baby. Honestly I can't really say I've done anything other than run after a toddler and breastfeed. I did start counting calories to know how much I'm eating and started walking.

Ideally I need to start toning so maybe I'll start C25K again. (but I don't have a 3 wheel stroller I have 19 lbs left to lose to get to my ideal weight (high school weight / health weight)

I'm also thinking of doing the Whole30 ... I remember cutting bread/rice/pasta/sugar made me lose 15 lbs in 3 months. Could be that extra kick I need. But I love me some Coke Zero. egh.

    Oh man, count me in.
4 weeks pp and the scale says I'm 7 pounds less than I was pre-pregnancy but that's not an accomplishment since I was up 15 pounds last summer (the stress of buying a house was insane! I packed on pounds out of no where). But I still have 14 to go until I'm at my normal weight and another 10 after that to fit nicely into my old clothes.

I just started walking this past week but I can't over do it, I'm paranoid to work out until I get the OK from my obgyn. I was making green smoothies every morning and eating salads at lunch but lately I've gotten lazy. I eat whatever is around and I blame it on being too tired to whip up anything. Not a good excuse!

After baby number one, I'd eat grapefruit in the morning with an egg white omlet + a morning walk or jog and just ate in moderation the rest of the day, that alone helped me get thin. So I'll try that again! Umm...maybe I should throw away the ice cream too!

@HeatherlovesKenny: for me, I found I lost much more weight then with my first. Is it the same for you?

@blushink: I think I've lost it at the same rate which is sad to me because I really do have to be active with my toddler! Maybe my metabolism has just slowed down a little.

Walked 2 miles yesterday carrying the baby and it took an hour. Yikes!

I started doing 45 minutes a day on my elliptical and I've lost 2 lbs in 3 days! Also not really eating much bread or grains (but not low carb, still eating lots of potatoes. Haha. Plenty of protein, veggies, fruit, and dark chocolate too). 8 lbs left to go to pre-preg weight, but would like to lose a few extra too.

@blushink: I love whole30! It totally changed how I eat. I mean, I still loooove bread, but I don't feel the need to eat it all the time like I used to. We don't even usually haven it in the house. DH loves the coke zero too, so that was so hard for him, but I'm pretty sure he was still drinking it at work! We still eat like whole30 about 80 percent of the time, but I'm thinking I may try for 100% again if just working out doesn't work well enough.

@HeatherlovesKenny: well for what it's worth... i never really worked out (ever in my life) so maybe the whole run after a toddler is a massive workout for my body. But I'm not complaining... since I've always had issues losing weight. Ah the battle of my life.

@krsmall: I've been keeping up with my running, just not daily. Its still so challenging, but my time and pace is actually slowly
    improving so that was motivating!

@kgbee: I think the endorphins are the only thing that are keeping me from quitting at this point. Its so hard to drag my ass out the door, but I do it because even though I feel dreadful... I really do feel refreshed after a run/workout.

Anyone else amazed with how little core strength they have now? I mean I'm not surprised, it makes sense. Just wow... I have a long way to go!

@LAGS: I was super surprised at how beat up my core is. Until about 10 weeks, I couldn't even suck in anything. I would try as hard as I could and my stomach would stay in the same spot. It was sad. I had a c-section and have been nervous to start core exercises since I'm actually still sore, but I need to try something!

This is probably tmi but does anyone have bladder issues? I empty my bladder before i work out but I still end up having leakage.

Oh and the boobs are so big it's weird running. I pump before I run and then put on 2 sports bras but they are so heavy even after that.

Ok maybe this is just what I need to get my lazy butt in gear!! I'm 9 months pp YIKES!! I'm about 2-3 lbs away from my pp weigh BUT I'm so flabby now! My dh left in May and my plan was to do the 30 day shred, which I did for about a week, then I found some excuse to skip a day and lost all motivation. So I have less than 2 weeks until he comes home and I promised him a toned body, ugh.. I better get busy starting tonight.

I have been doing 30 sit-ups, 75 lunges with weights, and 50 chest flies each night, I'm seeing some definition in my arms but my butt and tummy have seen no improvement.

I'm almost 15 months postpartum and I don't have baby weight to drop anymore, but I have lots of extra fluff I want to lose. I'm not a runner, but I've been trying to get in good walks, so far my best day was 7 miles.

I wish I actually liked exercise.

@LAGS: I miss my abs functioning! I am beyond surprised at how weak they are--especially after working out my whole pregnancy

I'm 5.5 months pp and am back to my wedding weight which is 8 lbs below pre-pregnancy weight but in flabby flabby flabby! My jeans and most of my clothes fit, but a lot of my shirts don't fit right cause of the boobs and BFing. I started 30 day shred in early June and got as far as day 3 before losing motivation. =\ With all you ladies joining in on 30DS I will have to get my butt into gear!

@krsmall: I went to Title 9 for my sports bras (the Fiona style, which fasten in front and therefore work as nursing bras as well, hooray) and they are AMAZING. Totally supportive without crushing or overly squishing my G-cups, even when I'm full of milk. I love that they have specific designs for specific ranges of breast size, so that you don't end up with giant boobs in a bra designed for small, or vice versa. I was able to run for the first time in a year once I got them last week! I felt awesome.

Well, I managed to finish week 1 of my bootcamp and I hurt EVERYWHERE!! I dread going to the bathroom because I'm scared to squat down to the toilet - haha!! But it's a good sign and I'm excited to see what the scale says at the end of tomorrow

  18. pastemoo

@krsmall: LOL. My boobs have always been big, so I alway ran with 2 bras and usually a tight cami or cami with a built in bra on top. I've only run once pp, and that did the trick. I can't wait to run again!

@BabyBoecksMom: YAY bootcamp! Good work mama.@kgbee: They make great bras.

@krsmall: Oh yeah! How do you find a sports bra for HUGE boobs that used to be tiny? I went from an almost B to a Double D. Holy Mother...if only I could enjoy them... But if your boobs still hurt from just being there, how do you exercise?

Did anyone else's hips and thighs grow? OMG. I tried to pull on what used to be a loose pair of capris today and they wouldn't go up past halfway above my knees. Where did these hips and thighs come from? I've never had them before!!

@mediagirl: Um, yeah....I went from a size 2 shorts to not being able to wear my mom's size 8 shorts (well, now, at 8 w PP I can button them). Yikes!

I just did day 1 of the 30 day shred! Not going to be able to walk tomorrow. Also must invest in a new sports bra. Holy booby pain!.

@krsmall: i had to see a physio to help with my pelvic floor because i had some...err..issues. It wouldn't hurt to see someone who specializes in post-natal care. It's 3 months pp, and i no longer have any leakage when i workout!

Today was my third real workout. Damn these muffin tops...i never used to have back fat!! I'm 8lbs away from my pre-preggo weight. I'm thinking of ordering the shred as well.

  26. littlek

    GOLD / squash / 13576 posts

I actually had a breakthrough, the past 2 days I went running there was no leakage. It felt so good to go running and not worry. I really really want a jogging stroller so I can run whenever I want, but I screwed up my paycheck this month and didn't get paid, so no fun money. I'm hoping to get one in august when I get paid twice.

How is everyone doing? I'm not seeing a big change on the scale but I certainly feel a lot better about myself now that I'm working out again.

@krsmall: sorry no stroller this month. I just got a new one and it is sooo much better for walking so I'm actually excited to go for walks. hope you get one next month!

Despite all the exercising my weight loss has stalled at 8 lbs left to go. Guess I should probably stop eating so much ice cream, but its so hard with this heat! a friend is going to give me her 30 day shred, so hopefully that will help.

  28. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

@krsmall: I'm not seeing a change on the scale either I've been walking everywhere with the LO's. I put DD in my front carrier and DS in the jogging stroller and take off for 4 or 5 miles. They get tuckered out from the fresh air and it's so nice to have quiet time.

Also, I threw out the junk food and bought more fresh produce than I usually buy. And gum keeps my mouth busy so I don't mindlessly snack. I'm so excited, I found a 24 hour women's fitness club and day spa with a lot of great classes (mommy and me groups, zumba, pilates, etc). Oh and they have organic airbrush tanning...being tan always makes me feel better about my body for some reason.

So this week is a start. Hoping Friday I'll be cleared for working out (6 week appt)!

I really hope I can start doing some sort of exercise soon because even thouth I only have 3 more lbs to lose to get to pre prego weight I am flabby and still have the 40-50 lbs to lose from before! Did anyone else with a c-section start exercising before the recomended 6 weeks?

    How's everyone doing? Shredding well?

I'm gearing up for another week of endorphins! Tried to go for a nice long walk this morning, but it was too humid for the Bug. Hoping these supposed storms hit soon and clear the air!

    Hey everyone!

I have no idea what my scale is doing (I don't own one!) but I FEEL a lot better these days and feel like I look different. I have been only doing shred 2x a week or so (last week was busy with dr. appts) but have been running on the weekends or when DH can get home from work on time and I'm now able to jog without stopping to walk - not bad for 7 weeks of bedrest! I do want to start doing the shred more as I really think that's what's going to change my body.

    Keep on truckin!

I weighed myself this weekend and realized that our scale is broken (I'm pretty sure I didn't gain 130 lbs overnight). But I've lost an inch on my hips and in my waist, so I'm now one size away from pre-pregnancy size!! Yay for bootcamp!

I just need to eat better (ie no more peanut butter snickers) and it should really come off.

Today will be day 8 of the Shred for me. I 'm going to do each level for 10 days. Turns out I wasn't as out of shape as I thought, and it's been going well so far. Only lost like 2 lbs, but my husband swears my tummy is smaller. I don't know about that. The diets going pretty well, too.

I am looking forward to my 6 week pp appointment tomorrow. After that appointment, I plan on starting to do some light working out. Right now my knees seem really weak, so I need to work on getting them back in shape. I've tried to go for at least one long walk a day but it is difficult in this heat. Baby and I can't handle it for long. I gained 45lbs during my pregnancy and I've only lost 17 so far...at least that's what my weird old scale at home says. I found it in my husband's closet, who knows how accurate it is.

  35. Ree723

    grapefruit / 4819 posts

Oh I so need this thread! I'm nearly 5 weeks post partum and am itching to get back in shape! I gained 32 lbs and have only lost 14, so still another 18 lbs to go. I'm happy that my belly went down almost immediately but my hips and thighs must have quadrupled in size as none of my pants fit yet. I also can't wear most of my pre-pregnancy tops as the breastfeeding enhanced boobs make that impossible. I was in great shape before getting pregnant so feeling so flabby and unfit is really a struggle for me.

I've been trying to go for walks most days but I'm definitely going to start the 30 day shred and yoga as soon as I'm cleared for working out after my 6 week appointment. I may also try the Couch to 5K as well but we'll have to see how much time I actually have for working out!

  36. mediagirl

    hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts

Ok ladies, I have 17lbs to lose. I can do this! I think on the really hot days, I may hop on our treadmill and put M in her bouncy seat in the same room. Or...I'll try the shred. I kind of feel like I need to start slow b/c it's been soooo long since I've worked out!!

  37. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@Ree723: the reason why I love the Shred only takes 25 mins - even if I'm sleep deprived I figure I can do this during one of DS naps.

@mediagirl: Way to go you have already lost so much!!

@winniebee: thanks. That was the easy part - I didn't have to do anything. Haha!!

@krsmall: I went to Kohl's today and bought a pair of gym shorts to wear around the house (in XL!!!!) and a skort that looks like a skirt from the outside, also in XL. Ugh. I also picked up some shirts that don't hide my belly flab but they do hide my new awesome back love handles. Uggghhh.

I really need to lose some of this before I go back to work in 6 weeks so I can wear some normal pants!!
