I would just get pads and Colace. Everything else can either be Primed or picked up by DH as needed. I liked Always Infinity pads. They were softer on stitches.

Pads, colace and earth mama bottom was all I bought and ended up wanting/needing. I also might have snuck some of the hospital supplies in my bag so I could create a stockpile for home... The ice pack pads they give are amazing. Oh so amazing.

Pads and dermaplast, so you don't have to worry about running out (even if you get some from the hospital). I liked having an abundance so I could change pads as often as I wanted to and could spray my nether region with a ton of Dermoplast spray every time I went to the restroom.

I got everything from the hospital....pads, colace, 2 peri bottles, mesh undies, lansinoh cream, bed liners and an abdominal binder.

I might be against the grain here, but I would wait and see what you actually need! You will likely get supplies from the hospital anyway. I thought I would need all these large pads and stuff everyone suggested, but I ended only needing a regular pad by the time I got home.

@Bookworm: I agree. Raid the room. We did. Don't forget to take the mesh underwear too. You'll need it for a few days until you can manage your own granny panties. Also, buy cheap underwear you don't mind getting gross. There's no need to ruin nice underwear for postpartum.

And I agree with pp, take ALL the mesh undies you can. Seriously. Ask for extra!

@anbanan15: Lucky you! I was still in the mesh undies with the 2 foot long pad after leaving the hospital for a day or two.

@Pepper: @highwire: I used them too! Regular underwear and regular pads all had a seam that came too close to my stitches.

I went through what the hospital gave me super fast (and they gave me a ton) and had DH drive me to Target a day after leaving the hospital...and I thought I was gonna die. Definitely get before hand. If you don't use it, save the receipt and you can return it. I needed stuff like ASAP and it would have taken DH forever to make a trip out and look for what I needed...like pp I would recommend:

Colace or a generic stool softenter
Overnight long pads with wings
Dermaplast
Tucks
Hydrocortisone (I liked the aveeno kind)
A size or two larger than what I normally wore package of hanes boycut undies
Lansinoh Soothies
Medela Tender Care Lanolin

I personally bought a lot of that stuff and never used it. Next time I'll probably buy a bag of medium sized pads and call it good.

the pads are good to have. i used always--not the ultra thin, but some of the heavy duty type. i did buy tucks but feel like i didn't really need them--you can see how it goes in the hospital and send someone out if you end up needing them. a lot of things you will be able to take from the hospital (i took the remaining tucks pads and dermaplast).

I would also like to add that I -

1) flew through the supplies from the hospital. I got two packages of pads (but small - I had to put two in each time), a container of tucks and some other things I forget now. But I had to put two tucks on my pad every time (no hems, but to soothe the stitches..bad tear!). So they went fast.

2) I did have to send DH out for more witch hazel, pads, etc - and he spent about 200% more than I would have. So I wished I had stocked up ahead of time and just returned later if necessary. He bought these insanely huge (i mean, insane) pads for urinary incontinence that CHAFED so I never used them. He also bought the fancy brand witch hazel at CVS for $6 per bottle. At target, it was around $1!! That's a huge difference when you need 3 bottles.

I got almost all of the things that I needed from the hospital. The only things that I needed were thinner pads (the hospital ones were really bulky) and ibuprofen. I bought a lot of other stuff but I didn't use any of it.
