This story is horrifying and tragic. DH and I were watching a basketball game the other night when our phones started going crazy with an Amber Alert (apparently that's a new system, amazing if you ask me!). This girl was kidnapped and murdered by a man who works in her school district.
This happened is Missouri, much too close to home for me. My heart aches for her family. Please pray for them, if you're the praying type.

@babyjmama: absolutely heartbreaking. I was following this and last I had heard, they had arrested him but hadn't disclosed that they had found her yet. Ugh. Her family must be in absolute agony. So heartbreaking.

We got the Amber alert in Oklahoma and I was so sad to see the outcome...just heart wrenching

I saw this Amber Alert on FB and reposted it as soon as I saw it. Breaks my heart that it wasn't a better outcome. Praying for her family so that they can somehow find peace.

It is so sad. 
When I got to work the next morning someone told me that they found her, and I said 'Oh good!', then they said "...No...". Broke my heart

It's terrible! They said they found two garbage bags and a wet area that was freshly cleaned with bleach but have yet to confirm that it's her in those bags. :\

My cousin's wife posted this Amber Alert on FB (they live near Springfield). I hadn't heard what happened until you posted this. It's just sickening. The fact that she was taken two blocks from her own home really drives home the point that you can't be too vigilant. It makes me never want to let my kids out of my sight, but I know that's not realistic either. Ughh...Her poor family.
I will say I think there are a couple of amazing things about this story. The fact that witnesses were chasing after the truck on foot and by car--that restores some of my faith in humanity. It also sounds like law enforcement acted quickly and efficiently. It's just so sad that none of those commendable efforts brought her home.

@Mrs. Blue: yes, I was grateful that so many neighbors were watching out. DH and I always keep an eye out in our neighborhood when we are out with J. There are 2 families who let their kids play outside but don't go out w/their kids and we just are...helicopter parents.
@grizz: yes, I figured you'd seen everything. Our radio programs this morning were 100% about this. Even the usually-raunchy shows were cleaned up and talking about this.
I just any shake the feeling I got from this. It's just disgusting.

Ugh, so horrible. It makes me so sad to feel like nowhere is really ever safe. We live in a nice development with a park in the center of it and in the summer you see tons and tons of kids running around to each others houses, playing in yards, and at the park by themselves. It seems so crazy to me that I couldn't/shouldn't let a 10 year old walk 2 blocks to her friend's house… so crazy.
