Does anyone else feel reluctant to take their LO around others? After all the pregnancy judgements and unsolicited advice, I have zero desire to take LO around anyone and I find it really irritating when people call to "check on" me (it inevitably includes some condescending remark coupled with unsolicited parenting advice).

My parents and DH's parents are both very good about boundaries. They know LO is ours and we can parents as we see fit. They are happy to give advice when we ask them (which we do.... after all they both raised their own kids), but they don't offer unless asked. For us bringing LO around our families was always a fun thing. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. could spoil LO for a bit while we got a break.
Sorry you're going through this.... it would be nice for you to have a good support system while raising your LO, not bring you down

I was paranoid about this during my pregnancy and after LO was born, but luckily I think I scared away any comments my family might have made. I started stressing (out loud) around 5 months pregnant about dealing with people after I had her, so they were all pretty well-warned to keep it nice. sorry you have to deal with this!

Thanks. It's been so much fun to take him around our friends, they're just excited for us and thrilled that he's here. But our families, ugh. SIL just had a LO a few months ago so she should get it but she is full of advice... Our LOs are SO different (hers was a chunky full term infant who was colicky, DS was a late preterm infant who is very mellow). Our struggles and successes are totally different as are our parenting styles, which is fine! But the advice isn't!
