DD was planned. Currently TTC our 2nd and last so we should have no surprises here

#1 surprise, we were trying to prevent but we were not as careful as we could have been
#2 planned
grapefruit / 4455 posts
All planned, but a little surprised when #1 happened the first month, and a lot surprised that #3 happened the first month given our ttc experience with #2. #3 was the least "planned." We just thought if it happened we would be happy (and are!) but if it didn't we were already very blessed with our two!

Definitely planned but I was still a little surprised each time. The first time I was surprised because I was expecting it to take a few months, I didnt even know what "tracking" was, and I found out I was pregnant just 2.5 weeks after we stopped preventing.
The second time I decided to try tracking, and we times perfectly and I didn't get pregnant the first two tries. Then I decided to take a break for one month and order more sticks (and family were in town so we had no privacy), and I somehow got pregnant and my doctor theorized I had ovulated only 6 days after my last period. We didn't have dtd 3 weeks of that month because of visitors. Weird stuff.

#1 planned
#2 happened a few months earlier than planned. We knew we would try soon and got sloppy at preventing. It was a shock even though I know exactly when it happened.

Like @Anagram:, DD was definitely planned, but we still managed to be surprised. We had been trying for over a year, I had a UTI and an HSG during the cycle we conceived, and with all that going on, we hadn't tried at all during the supposed "window". And yet, here she is . . .

I don't believe NTNP is a thing. If you are off birth control and having sex (even if you aren't charting/temping) you are trying.
So while I was not charting or temping we were trying. We wanted our daughter. But we were not going to be timing sex until after we were trying for several months.

#1 very planned
#2 we had just decided that month to stop preventing pregnancy, but we weren't actively trying ... so, a semi-surprise
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@youboots: I think NTNP is real. That's how M came to be. If we were actively trying, it would have looked like more sex during a planned window of time. That month, we just said we'd stop preventing, but not actively try.
This in contrast to trying for months for A. It was very much planned, and we paid way more attention to my cycle and had sex accordingly.

1: planned
2: surprise as we were preventing during fertile times but due to travel and moving, my O was delayed over a week more than normal so even with my conservative coverage of barrier methods and abstaining, we basically DTD unprotected at the exact right time to conceive.

Am I the only one who couldn't vote more than once?

DD planned
DS planned, tried, gave up, SURPRISE-- so a planned surprise I guess?

Hellobee skews heavily to the planned side vs the general public I'm sure!

LO1 was so so planned.
LO2 was a complete surprise (a good one! but we were actively preventing...trying to avoid a holiday baby)
I also had 3 losses and all 3 were planned.

2 - was a MC but I had gotten my IUD out but was supposed to be preventing for a month, but forgot condoms on a trip.
3 - planned

Our first wasn't a Surprise buy not planned either. We had unprotected sex one day. Can't be too surprised if you get pregnant lol. Didn't think one time would be the one though. Second was planned.

#1 planned, active TTC
#2 surprised, def very much wanted just earlier than expected; we were NTNP

Mine was a surprise, but really how surprised can we be if we knew we hadn't prevented...

#1 total surprise
#2 sort of a surprise (got pregnant right away after an early MC and was totally shocked that we were pregnant so quick)
pomegranate / 3192 posts
#1 planned (although it was a surprise that it happened so quickly)
#2 planned (early m/c)
#3 NTNP (had only had the m/c a couple weeks before so weren't really trying but not really preventing. Just had sex once in the fertile window!)

2+ years of IF issues and MCs before BFP with DS1. That was totally a surprise because we were gearing up for IVF and in the middle of getting our tests done when it happened.
DS2 was sort of a NTNP surprise. We got pregnant right after I got my first PP period, but we were expecting to need IVF with any future kids after our struggles with DS1 so hadn't worried about getting pregnant.

LO#1 planned
LO#2 planned
We were (happily) surprised at how quickly it happened for us but we weren't preventing.
@youboots: I'm in this camp as well.
honeydew / 7283 posts
All 3 were planned. Numbers 1 and 2 happened very quickly, #3 took a few months longer.

#1 super planned.
#2 we were trying naturally but didn't think it'd be possible, so we were still surprised!
pear / 1767 posts
@youboots: I totally agree. It's like there is "trying hard" and "trying half-assed" but at the end of the day, both are still trying.

Both were planned. LO1 was conceived with the help of an RE and a lot of medication. LO2 we were trying and didn't need the RE. I was a little shocked about LO2 because it happened the first cycle. Literally, two weeks after we decided to try naturally I was pregnant.

My first pregnancy (miscarriage) was I surprise, I was tracking and I thought safe, but ovulated easier then I normally do. I didn't realize it at the time.
Second pregnancy was very planned.
Third was a oops, not really a surprise. I know exactly when it happened and was worried, but was also 10 month pp and still breast feeding like crazy.
