Does progesterone make your cycle longer? My doctor put me on it this month for suspected endometriosis and told me to take it until I got my period. I'm 3 days late and BFN. I've been pretty much like clockwork the last few months. Just wondering if this is a side effect of the med?

I was on progesterone after my IUI cycles and I never got my period until I stopped the progesterone. And even then, it still took another 3-4 days for it to show. I definitely found that progesterone made my cycles longer.

I think it can lengthen your LP (but don't quote me on that...)
Either way, I'll cross my fingers that you're late for more fun reasons

It can take a few days after you stop the progesterone for AF to arrive. Basically AF is triggered by the drop in hormones, which is also how Provera works.

@sweetooth: After poking around on the internet, I'm seeing most people say they were instructed to stop the progesterone and then they got their period within a couple of days, like you said. Now I'm confused. I' wondering if she told me the wrong thing/forgot to tell me or if I was so shaken up by being diagnosed with potential endometriosis that I wasn't listening properly.
Of course I didn't think about this until after close of business on Friday.

@spaniellove: When did they tell you to stop taking it? Now I'm worried I'm doing something wrong by continuing to take it and should stop.

@mrs. 64: Err...I think it's fine to stop it when you've confirmed a BFN. The first time I used it somehow I started bleeding early through it, but after that I stopped with a negative beta at 14 dpo.

@mrs. 64: It's confusing to me too because I thought progesterone prevented a period from happening. But as spaniellove said, some people still bleed even when they are on it. Is there an after hours line you can call at your doctor's office?

@mrs. 64: It can lengthen LP. My Dr. gave me and RX to take my caps CD 16-25 because I have a 28 day cycle. By day 28 I start AF.
I would call and talk to your Dr. & talked to the nurse about it. I don't think you are suppose to take it everyday, otherwise AF would never come. Your body needs your progesterone to drop in order to get start a new cycle.

I think I must have heard her wrong. We definitely discussed my period and next cycle and we are TTC so not having a period at all isn't what we're going for. The after hours line is only for emergencies and I don't think this qualifies as an emergency. I'm thinking about not taking it through the weekend and seeing if AF shows.
@lovelyplum Since this isn't it, I'm hoping to get the show on the road. Hoping next month is my month!
