Does anyone know how do decipher the progesterone levels? The lab tech called back and said my progesterone was 6.6 and I think I am 3dpo. So this means I didn't ovulate?

@anonysquire: My RE said that they look for anything over 10. I don't know if it means you did/didn't ovulate, or if you just have too low of a progesterone level and need to be on supplements. I definitely know that if it's less than 10, that's too low to support a pregnancy and you'd HAVE to be on suppositories or something to supplement it. I think on Clomid it's typically higher too than on a non-medicated cycle.

@anonysquire: I'd definitely try to get in touch with the dr in the am to see if they want you to be on progesterone suppositories or something...I know that number is a bummer, but at least if this cycle doesn't work, you know for next time that you need to be on progesterone as soon as you ovulate.
Are you seeing an RE or an OB? It seems like an RE would confirm ovulation with an ultrasound, not just bloodwork. That's what mine did, but maybe they're all different....Anyway, since my O was confirmed with u/s (and a trigger shot) when they checked my 7dpo P4 levels, they were just checking to see if it was high enough to sustain a pregnancy, so that's where the "over 10" info came from. Anything below that, I was told was too low:(

@jholler25: I am seeing my OB. I told myself if it didn't happen this month I would stop til Janurary, so maybe in Janurary I will go find a RE.

I don't know that this would help you, but at just under 6 weeks pregnant, my progesterone was 12.5...they said between 5-20 was on the low side of normal and put me on progesterone pills for the first trimester. I would think that means that it's possible to get/be pregnant with a 5 (or 6.6), but you'd need to get the levels up, stat. (but really, I know nothing...)

I don't know what that means in reg to your ovulation....but 1 day after I got my bfp, my doctor saw that I was at 14.6 & she immediately put me on prog Meds to enhance my levels so the pregnancy could survive...so I know that 6ish is probably on the very low end?
I'd get some progesterone cream and start lathering it on after ovulation (check O with opk strips) .

Ditto not knowing about ovulating, but I was a 9 at 6 weeks pregnant, and was prescribed progesterone supplements.

@anonysquire: Usually they check P at 7dpo in order for it to be accurate. I believe that that the over 10 rule is when checked at 7dpo. At 3 your progesterone is still rising so yours may not actually be too low! Some over the counter P cream couldn't hurt though!
I've had low progesterone issues for a really long time. Luckily, if it is a problem you end up having, it's easy to supplement!

@Running Elley: Ok, thank you for that. I will talk to the doctor tomorrow and find out where we go from here. Do you think they would prescribe me progesterone supplements without knowing if I am even pregnant?

@anonysquire: It honestly depends on your doctor I think. Mine had me taking prometrium (a progesterone supplement) starting at 3dpo. My instructions were to take it until 12dpo and then test. If positive we'd keep monitoring and if negative I was to stop the prometrium and AF would show. My doctor prescribed it because of my history of low P. Good luck! I've researched this a lot, I'm always here if you need advice or to talk about it!

@anonysquire: btw I really do think that if your progesterone came in at 6 on 3dpo it's on the right track to be a good level.

@Running Elley: Ok thank you so much! Another lady told me that they check on day 23 because they assume you ovulate on day 14, which I didn't I ovulated on CD 19-20 and got my blood test on CD22. So hopefully you are right. I don't want to get my hopes up that I might have ovulated til I call her tomorrow. Just frustrated.
And I told a few people that my results came back probably negative for ovulation and they all said it's probably a sign. Umm a sign for what? Oh well.

@anonysquire: Yepp they assume ovulation on CD14. It wasn't until I started charting and showed my dr that I always O'd after CD20 that she let me just go on 7dpo. I get the frustration Keep us updated!

@Anonysquire - I don't have the faintest idea about any of this (progester-what-now?!!) but I wanted to give you a big virtual hug and tell you that's I'm with you (from thousands of miles away) every step of the way. xx

@anonysquire: I totally did not even read that your progesterone was checked on 3 dpo- sorry! Good catch, @Runningelley! I assumed it was done on 7dpo - DUH!

My progesterone tests were always done on day 21 of my cycle, and they look for something in the teens.
I'm also on progesterone supplements (pills in the evening) because I have luteal phase defect. So it's common if you need them!

@jholler25: Ya I should have mentioned it. Hopefully they will retest or something?

@jholler25: The doc just called back and said it looks like I did ovulate? I am shocked, still don't know if I believe her lol. But she said I ovulated day 14 which I know I didnt and that I only ovulated 4 days ago or so, and then she seemed a little concerned. I am just confused but she told me to call back Wednesday when my normal doctor is in.
Just wanted to update! Thanks everyone!!!

@anonysquire: I think you definitely ovulated but I’d go with your O date based on the level that came back on your bloodtest! If you hadn’t ovulated yet I think it would be under 4! Do you have any symptoms of low progesterone- short luteal phase, pre-AF spotting, etc?
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@Running Elley: I don't think so. Last month my luteal phase was like 17-18 days. She said to call her on CD40 if I have not gotten a period for a blood test. I am having several early pregnancy symptoms I think, or my body is tricking me yet again. I hope somehting comes outta this! My dang mouth won't stop filling up with saliva! TMI!
