If your LO did this: when did it start? How often did it happen? When did it end? Was your LO breastfed, on formula, or a combo? Did you seek professional help? What helped - burping, medicine, diet changes?

If he's truly vomiting and not just spitting up I would probably consult your doctor. We had some pretty bad episodes and in our case it turned out to be a lot of intolerances so I had to go on a strict elimination diet.

@Truth Bombs: it's spit up, but very forceful. So gross but can you describe your bad episodes? I'm just curious. Everything I've read so far says it's not usually related to allergies.

They say a "happy spitter" is not a problem, but pain associated with it is not good. My LO was a silent refluxer but we had a period of frequent vomiting around a year that resolved when we switched from Pediasure to WCM (all based on docs orders).

My LO did this. Unfortunately it didn't stop until around 4 months. She was EBF and would nurse then start coughing/gagging and it would just spew out. It looked like a lot...basically the entire feeding would come back up. Nursing her more upright helped (though this is difficult til they have better head control) and I would also only nurse one side at a time. I think it was from oversupply/forceful letdown. She was a happy spitter and would spit everything up and it didn't bother her at all. No crying or anything.

@Mrs Green Grass: I'd say he's a happy spitter! And it doesn't happen for every feeding.

@lawbee11: my LO only does one side at a time when nursing (different from LO 1). I actually think I do have an oversupply because I pumped like a madwoman in the NICU.

@cmomma17: DD2 is 10 weeks old and we went through this frequently from 4-8 weeks, but it seems to have slowed down now. My interim ped sucks (while the regular one is on medical leave) so he wasn't very helpful, but luckily its seeming to resolve itself. She is EBF and it would come out very forcefully - through her nose and all, but my main concern was the amount. She was usually very fussy prior to it and then happy afterwords.

My son was a spitter but I don't really remember him ever projectile vomiting it all up. My DD however does it on occasion. Usually it seems she overeats, coughs/gags then it all comes up in a huge spew of milk. I only ever nurse her on one side but I know i have a forceful letdown. And she is never upset when it happens. She does it a lot less now but it still happens every so often still at almost 8 months. In fact, she JUST did it while i was laying with her in her bed, nursing her to sleep. As a newborn, maybe it happened once a week. It slowed down around 3-4 months and now it happens like once every couple weeks-once a month.
@lawbee11: this is exactly what my DD does, too. Just eats too much, coughs and it projectiles out. So fun when it happens when I'm laying with her and I get covered in it.

Fyi with my Lo, it often depended on something we did after feeding (even though we were careful). Pressure on the tummy, too much movement, bottle too far in mouth... I would also be completely still while lO eats (no rocking).

@cmomma17: Sorry just saw your response. My LO would some times spit up what looked like half of what she just took in! It wasn't super forceful but there was times where it was A LOT. But we also had mucus and specks of blood in her stool so we knew something was going on.

@cmomma17: dd was like this. It was insane the amount that would come out. It wasn't every feed but when she did it seemed like everything she ate came out. She grew out of it after a couple of months and it wasn't allergy it reflux related. I definitely had an oversupply as well. She was EBF.
