I know that insurance will only cover one well woman exam per year, but is that the case even if I have different insurance this year than I did last year? I am asking because I am due for mine in December, but a year technically won't be until mid/late December, and I'd rather get it done before the craziness of the holidays. So do you know if I could get it done earlier since I am on a new insurance plan?

It all depends on your insurance. Some plans cover one plan per 365 days and other plans cover one exam per calendar year (so you could get an exam in Dec 2012 and another in Jan 2013 and they would both be covered). I would just call and ask.

If a different company covered you last year, you should have been eligible for an exam with your new insurance anytime this year. Most plans I've come across do coverage by calendar year. You could call your doc and have them check with your insurance if it'd be covered, might be easier than calling the insurance company.

i bet if you have a new ins plan you'd be fine. you could just call & ask the ins when you're eligible because you want to schedule one but you aren't sure when you're up for one. i know mine covers one per calendar year per dr, so if i switch drs, they'll cover one by the new dr even if the year isn't up.

I agree with the PPs - I'd just call and ask. I call my health insurance constantly with questions and they're always pretty straightforward! We had only one instance of confusion and I got it covered because after reviewing the tape, they were at fault for misinforming me

If you have a completely different insurance plan/carrier than last year, then I think you're okay to get one done now or prior to your "annual" exam. Like previous posters, for verification, call you insurance carrier.
