I'll work FT when all three are in school.

once all my kiddos are in school I will probably work full time, if not then at least part time,. I have to use my degree that I am working so hard to get and paying for!!!

I will be a SAHM and will go back when kids are in school I think. Maybe a bit sooner.

I'm really hoping to find part time work this fall when my daughter is 18 months. I'd like to stay part time until our next child is born (which will be no sooner than when my daughter is a little over 3 years), at which point I will stay at home again. When that baby is about 18 months or so, I will go back to work either part or full time, depending on finances and how I feel.

I love staying home, but it think my kids will definitely benefit from some group socialization, and part time feels like a nice balance. I also love my professional field, and am excited to get back to it!

Yes, once they are all school age (I work PT even now, and love it!) then I'll likely go back 30ish hours a week.

I wasn't happy when I was working 45+ hours a week, and can't imagine going back to that life again. Plus with kids who need transportation for activities and a house that needs more care and more cooking responsibilities for older kids, I think there will still need to be some compromise with work hours.

I'll go back part time when my kids go to school. Honestly, I probably won't ever work full time again. But I am looking forward to going back to the career I love, having a little extra money, and still being able to be home when my kids are home. Luckily, my previous supervisor has offered to take me back at whatever reduced hours I'd like whenever I'm ready.

I never planned to stay home, but I was at home for two years. In that time, I kept my network active, which led to my current job.

I think it is difficult if you stay out too long, you contacts age and leave, your skills are dated and your time away becomes the most discussed thing on your résumé. I've talked at length with women in my industry and the consensus seems to be no more than three years out if you plan to re enter.

I'm not sure. In an ideal world, I would probably freelance & work flexible hours. I would like to be able to volunteer in my kids' classrooms, pick them up from school & attend their extracurriculars like my mom did. I honestly think school aged kids benefit just as much if not more than small children from a SAHP.

Having said that, financially I am not sure that will be possible. We will see what the future holds but I very likely will go back to work at some point in the near future. My mom has offered to watch LO if the need arises & I would like to put her in part-time Montessori preschool at 18 months either way, so if there was a good opportunity now I'd pursue it.

I may do something p/t once M's in school. I'd love to work at a library. I'm also in the Jr.League and will be able to do more daytime volunteering with them once she's in school.

@Mrs. Pen: Yes, but this was also my mom's second marriage and she was 40 when she had me. My dad was 51 and they were set financially so she probably didn't feel the need. I wish she would volunteer or do something now though because my dad is in an assisted living and she's kind of floundering.

I plan on doing something PT once they are both in school. Not FT because there are so many school breaks and I want to pick them up after school to do activities and help with homework.

Once we move back to the UK I hope to retrain as a primary school teacher. I doubt I'll go back to my former career.

I don't plan to work again. I'll volunteer at school, church and help with my husband's business.

@Mrs. Pen: more than industry, I think it is supply and demand for the jobs. In certain parts of the country, you have a lot if graduates that are willing to work for a lot less to get their foot in the door. I also have seen first hand that the people they welcome back are the ones that have specific industry knowledge. It is a risk you take when you become specialized as you limit your potential opportunities, but it can also pay you back nicely.

I think a woman's best bet is to scale back to part time if possible, rather than exit altogether. I wish there were more options.

I would like to work at least PT once our youngest is in school. I think I may try to go back to school, though, for a different career.

I would for sure not be a stay at home mother forever. I'm currently volunteering to keep a toe in the water and plan to go back part time in the next few years. I'd like to work part time until any kids are out of the house.

I became a SAHM with the intention that it was only going to be for a year. Well my year is up and I'm pretty excited about working again. While I loved being at home with my LO for 18 months, I think she is starting to need more socialization than I can give her with just play dates. She started daycare recently and she seems to be doing great there which makes me so happy.

For our family, this extended "maternity leave" worked out really well.

At least until my youngest is in Kindergarten. Although I might do VERY part time (less than 10 hrs a week) before that.
