Do you prefer a portable one over a full-sized one?
If so, why?
I am open to either. I just want to make the RIGHT decision... I always tend to buy the wrong baby gear.
I want something that is a neutral color and will work for any gender (and look okay in our house).

We have the Stokke Tripp Trapp and love it. It is pricey but we got it as a shower gift. Sometimes they pop up on craigslist. Ours is walnut and fits in perfectly with our dining room furniture. I love that our DD sits at the table with us so she feels like she is a part of mealtimes.

It works really well for us! It was the right price for our budget and is very functional/handy! When J is at my mom's during the day she uses the bumbo w/the tray.

Honestly, I am really loving our super cheap $25 IKEA high chair. It is super easy to clean, doesn't have any crevices to get stuff trapped or fabric to wash, and Sawyer seems totally comfy in it! I actually like the simpleness of its appearance as well.

I vote Phil and teds if your table doesn't have an apron! They are portable,, easy to clean and don't take up space. I have used them with my nanny LOs and loved them.
Also love the stokke but its $$$

We couldn't decide on the type of chair we wanted until we found this one. It's by far the best high chair we found because its 4-in-1 (it grows with the baby), easy to move around, and easy to clean. Here's a link where u can read more about its features

I want portable bc I don't want a huge high chair taking up space. And I like that I can take it with us to the ILs or out to dinner.

@X0X0X0: We have this same high chair but in the Vance color. We haven't used it a ton yet but it's worked so far and I like that you can use it with two kids at once (we can have the booster seat available when our nephew comes over).

We have a portable Chicco - it works well because we have an apron on our table and Tyler has plenty of room to grow in it.
MIL has an Inglesia and IMO it's of better quality than the chicco and Tyler fits better in it since he is smaller.
We do have an OXO sprout high chair and haven't set it up yet. I can't deal with the clutter at the moment But I like that it is neutral and looks like furniture, not just another piece of baby crap.

If you aren't opposed to spending a bit more for something that's easy to clean, solid, and neutral, we love our OXO Sprout chair.

I second Ikea Antilop- he is very comfortable, it is super affordable at $25 with the tray, I can take it outside and hose it off without worrying about damaging finish or fabric- cause this learning to eat thing it's messy! It is relatively portable, we just take the legs and tray off and throw everything in the car when we travel, and it comes in blue, red, or white- we have blue, which we would still use if we had a girl in the future.

Fisher price healthy care booster. We waited until 6 months to start solids, so this was great. You can adjust the height, it is cheap, small, portable, but still sturdy and gets the job done.

We have the OXO Sprout as well and I looooove it! The style is fantastic and the quality is great. It's not cheap looking, and so we don't mind keeping it out in our kitchen. We like how it will grow with her, it's easy to clean without the covers being plastic-y, and the harness is really nice too. We are big fans and it's one of my favorite baby purchases even though it was on the pricier side. Same with the 4moms pack and play we got. SO worth the money!

I am considering getting a portable highchair like the Chicco or Inglesina though.

i've had the tripp trapp, boon flair, and 2 of the fisher price boosters (one of them comes with an extra tray i think). Since space is tight for us, the fisher price booster has been great. i sold everything else even though the boon and tripp trapp were nice chairs, we just didn't have the room.

I have the same dilemma. I would love the Tripp trap but my baby is only 5 months old. Can anyone who actually has this chair report if it is okay for babies that young?
My next choice is probably boon flair. Fisher price booster isn't an option for us because we have barstools in lieu of dining chairs.

@plantains: The in-laws just bought one for her to have at their place. She was sitting in it fine, we're not feeding her yet, so she was just watching us during dinner (she's just turned 5 months). They got her this one.
However, we use the IKEA Antilop with the tray attachment at home. We don't eat at the table, so it works perfectly fine for us. At my mom's house, she'll be using the Fisher-Price Booster Seat, it'll store well since we won't be visiting as often.
