Has anyone here ever made one? Is it super hard? Is it super hard for someone who cant sew for their life?
I want a quilt to take my kids on a picnic to use (and also for future pictures)
I would love to make one but realize my sewing is abysmal Anyone here make them? Interested in bartering? I crochet amigurumi toys.

If you can sew a straight line you can do it! I made one for lo when i was pregnant. I will find the tutorial i used. The hardest part was making sure you use the same seam allowance on every seam os that it still lines up when youre done.

Whats a seam allowance?
I can hand sew but wouldnt that take me a decade? I cant operate my sewing machine and Mr Chocolate has used it more than I have fixing things around the house thats how pathetic I am...I even took a private class! Im awful!

@Mrs. Chocolate: seam allowance is just the amount of space between the edge of the fabric and where the seam goes. There are lines on the sewing machine that you can follow. You just want to use the same one every time.

I made a mini one first just to make sure i could do it. The big one was actually easier, but it gave me the confidence to actually do it

I have made two very simple ones now and I swear I will not make another one unless I invest in a rotary cutter, may and straight edge to go with it. My biggest issue was that even being really careful with scissors I wound up with wonky lines on my fabric. Then when you ruin it through the seeing machine you use the edge of the fabric to guide you for straight lines- so if your fabric isn't cut straight your seams aren't straight. Both quilts I made have lots of puckering from where I just sort of forced things together. They work, and don't look awful but it takes a decent amount of time to make a quilt and I was disappointed to have it turn out that way.
Another option would be to buy a kit with the pieces precut.

I cut a pattern out of thin cardboard and traced around on the back of the fabric. That way all I had to do was cut the lines. They definitely weren't perfect but it was close enough. There is a little spot that's kinda wonky, but I figure it proves I'm the one who made it haha

@Mrs. Chocolate: My mom and I make quilts, but it's mostly her doing all the work (I do the cutting/piecing and she does the sewing.) I'd try going to a local quilt shop and asking around--either someone will be teaching a class, or someone would most certainly be for hire

I've done a rag quilt. There are tons of examples on Pinterest. They are quite easy.

This is making me want to make a quilt.
A super simple option, which I might do, is just sew together. 6x6 squares, and hand tie it instead of quilting. We have one like that on our bed and I love it as a throw blanket!
I am not the straightest sewer though and so I am sure mine wouldn't turn out as crisp. Rag quilts are much more forgiving. I agree about a rotary cutter.
I did a rag quilt for each of the boys. Just a 36x36 one. It's great for tummy time or a car seat blanket.
