One of the kids camp counselors has been giving me books to read - some good others not so much!
Just finished The Good Luck of Right Now and gave it 2 stars.
I want to read a 5 star book!
What did you LOVE??

I loved The Storied Life of AJ Fikry. If you have Prime Reading (included w Amazon Prime), it's free, so that's a bonus.

@Mamaof2: I really, really enjoyed Jane Green's "The Sunshine Sisters." Seems like it was going to be silly and light but ended up having a lot of depth. Gave me a nice warm feeling which is how I like my books

I'm very picky and I almost never award 5 stars to a book. This year the only book that's gotten 5 stars from me is Atul Gawande's Being Mortal. It's not a light subject but it's so well-written and easy to read and his message is very important, so I'd recommend it even though it's not a beach read. Fiction-wise, I really enjoyed A Man Called Ove, though I gave it 4 stars.

@Pancakes: Gawande writes for The New Yorker and I've loved every piece I've ever read by him. I've never read any of his books though, so thanks for the recommendation!

A Man Called Ove, and You by caroline kepnes were the last two that really stayed with me. But I've sadly been in a dry spell too. I just read Confrssions of a Domestic Failure thinking it would be a funny and breezy read and it was very disappointing. One star.

Do you like sci-fi? Have you read The Martian by Andy Weir or Old Man's War by John Scalzi? Red Rising by Pierce Brown is also excellent. For fantasy, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo and Blood Song by Antony Ryan are fantastic.

The Vacationers + Modern Lovers by emma Straub were both great.
Enjoyed the Idiot by Elif Batuman.
Reading Mrs. fletcher by Tom perotta now and can't put it down.

@Anya: I was coming to post A Man Called Ove. I didn't think it was necessarily 5 stars, but I read it in one day (traveling at the time) and it kept me interested.

@Adira: SIDENOTE: Did you read The Passage ????
I just finished the trilogy and I really liked it.

@Mamaof2: Have you read Donna Tartte's The Secret History ? I really really enjoyed that book.
I've been reading Sci-Fi lately and agree with Adira on the Red Rising Triology. Really good, a little violent.

I haven't been too impressed with some of the books I've picked up lately. I did just start Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare and I'm hooked. However, I've loved all of her other books so...it's got to be your thing!

@Adira: it's going to be a show on FOX next year, so I figured I'd try it and I was really impressed!

Ooh, I also loved Being Mortal along with Homegoing. It's about two sisters in Africa. One marries a slave trader and one is captured and sold as a slave in America. It follows their families through time. Very compelling.
