I thought this was a cool rent vs. buy calculator.

Apparently it was better for us to rent than buy. It is probably right... my house seems like a money shredder sometimes!

For us it says buying was better! There is 0 chance we could get a place even half as nice as where we live now for the money they said we'd need to rent for.

That is really cool-thanks for sharing. . We are still getting a deal with buying. The one item that caused a big loss was maintenance but I guess I should expect that.

This is cool. Thx for sharing!
We just bought the house we are planning on staying in for a long time. But sometimes my DH talks about selling (since the market is so nuts) and renting, but I think that is a crazy idea. This calc helps to make some sense of what he is saying. (But we are still not selling, ha!)

This is cool. For our particular situation, buying was better since rental costs are high where we live. But the difference is small, just $200 a month anyway, so buying and renting are really almost the same----the only thing that would make buying come out on top would be if we make a decent profit when we sell. And that's all in the timing.

Buy!
I don't really know many places that you can get a three bedroom for less than $1,000 per month.
