@Bookish: I will say my mom has a Rav-4 and her backset is smaller than my Ford Fusion (car) backseat was...the carseats were a TIGHT fit in her car & no room for a 3rd person. Just some input.
My BFF just got an Equinox and loves it, I have an Acadia, bigger but love it. I also have a friend wtih the Edge and it's amazing!

I'll side with your husband...we have an 08 tundra double cab truck, and we have 18 mo twins with plenty of room, even on very long trips. I seriously love it We had an 05 explorer before that and it was no where near as comfortable. Since we bought the tundra used it was only 22k. The mpgs aren't great like the tacoma, but we tow so we need a full size v8. If you go without 4x4 and get a v6 they may be closer to the taco.

I absolutely adore my Subaru Forester. Some of the best all wheel drive around.

We love our Rogue (I think we have a 2010?)! But, I'm wondering if we're just overpackers because after our Christmas road trip with LO and our pup we're feeling like we need something bigger in the next few years. I think we need to learn to pack lighter

We have a Hyundai Santa Fe and love it! The price is right and it's been a really great car!

@LuLu Mom: I still want an Equinox... We test drove it, and i loved it. DH preferred the Edge so the person that drives it all the time picked.

I'm super in love with my Subaru Forester!
I found that I had a hard time with visibility in the Rav4 and Hyundai's.

Also, have you considered something like the Subaru Outback? That's another one we're eyeing.

@MerryC: hehe my DH thinks the Tundra is too big! Despite living in a town where all the trucks are jacked up.... he just didn't get the Texan truck gene
@LovelyPlum: I actually saw one on the road today and mentally added it to my list lol! I love that it's classified as a wagon, because I wagons big time

@Bookish: I have the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I love it. It's very rugged and handles really well. I would have never thought about buying a Jeep before, but the newer models look great and have a ton of neat features. We were also seriously considering the GMC Terrain, but it was a little smaller than what we were looking for.

@sweet_p: Oh I'm so glad you posted! The Jeep Cherokee is surprisingly my top pick at the moment. I know you have the Grand, but does your car seat fit well in the back? How's the gas mileage? I'm going to interrogate you a bit since you're the only bee I can find with a Jeep haha

I have a Jeep Patriot and I actually love it. It has been PERFECTLY reliable. My husband has a Mitsubishi Outlander and it's a little nicer than the Patriot and has more trunk space.

CRV!! Love the nice wide middle console between the front seat, perfect for a bag. Fold down flat back seats, and the back seat spy mirror on the glasses case. And one of the best fuel economy in it's class!

I looked thoroughly into the Subaru Forester and Tribeca. We knew we wanted a third so we ended up with a bigger car but both were amazing and friends of ours love their subarus.

@Bookish: The car seat fits really well in the back. We have the Britax Boulevard, which is pretty big, but there is plenty of space left and I think my LO likes it because she doesn't feel crowded back there. I usually average about 17-19 miles a gallon, but I have a bit of a lead foot, haha. Interrogate away, I'm happy to help!

Our next car is going to be a Mazda cx-5. Great gas, mileage, fun to drive, easy maintenance, fairly loaded base model, which I love.
