When DS#2 was born, he had a slight hernia in his belly button. It healed after about a month but his belly button has stayed slightly pink/red.
Now it is extremely red but has no other symptoms. Pediatrician told me to just wait until his 6 month appointment next month since it doesn't seem to be urgent. Any one else have experience with this? I am not too concerned but find it odd?

Is he playing with it at all? E went through a weird touching phase with her belly button (so did my niece, actually....she would make hers bleed!)

E's was like this we would put a little A&D ointment on it at bed time. His doctor basically said it was chapped. Although I wasn't sure how it was chapped. It cleared up in three or four days.

This happened to me after my first baby - it started chapped, began peeling, and got a really nasty infection. I'd see a dr to be sure!

@blackbird: He isn't playing with it (that I know of), he is more interested in his fingers/toes at the moment. But he is a tummy sleeper, so maybe it is irritating it?
@MrsKoala: I think if it was infected it would smell, have drainage, scabs, something? Right? It's the weirdest thing.
@MrsRcCar: Maybe it stays chapped because he is a tummy sleeper? I put Vaseline on it but maybe he needs something stronger.
@PinkElephant: Ahh! Thank you for the heads up! I will try to catch it before it becomes infected.
