Obviously, most people register at more than one place. But what if something is available at every place you register? Do you just pick one (the cheapest, if there's a difference, perhaps), or register for the same thing at different places and try to keep any eye on things and delete it off the rest if you get it? I guess it's simple for things you want more than one of, but what about the one shot items? This is confusing!

I overlapped. Just because I preferred Buy Buy Baby, but there wasn't one near me, so I registered for similar items at walmart too so people didn't have to travel far or order online if they didn't want to.
I just stalked the crap out of both and deleted things as they were bought from one store.

I just registered for it at whatever place was cheaper. However, if it looked like one registry was getting thin while the other still had lots of stuff on it, I would switch it over.

@mrsbookworm: same. Or things I wasnt sure about I registered for at the store where it would be easier to do a return. I tried not to have too many duplicates.

I didn't overlap...ain't nobody got time for that! Plus pretty much everyone bought my gifts the day or two before my shower so it would have been very difficult to delete things...I would've gotten duplicates for sure.
I registered at BRU and Amazon. Pretty much anything that was available in store at BRU I registered for there (because I know some people like to go to an actual store). If it wasn't available in store (or at BRU at all) I registered for it on Amazon.

I did an online store and then BRU. Things that were at both I picked BRU because I figured people would prefer to go to the store. I was right.. barely got anything from my online registry!

I overlapped. I didn't mind getting two of things because then I could return for store credit

I registered wherever it was cheaper. I didn't want to have to deal with returns right before/after LO arrived, and I didn't want to have to stalk my registry to avoid duplicates.

I did exactly what @lawbee11 did. BRU and Amazon. If the item wasn't available in store at BRU I put it on my Amazon registry (and it was usually cheaper there).
I only got 2 things off my Amazon registry (even though it had a lot more "useful" items). I was right in assuming people wouldn't want to order things online and would prefer picking it up in store.

I did Amazon and Target and just picked the store where the item was cheaper for most things...but made sure the Target registry was full enough for people who wanted to shop in-store.

I did Target, Amazon, and a local store. I only registered for duplicates of a few things that I really wanted, but very few people ended up shopping at either the local store or Amazon and I did not get duplicates of those items.
I did get a ton of duplicates of items I registered for at Target - not sure if it was something funky in their system or what. We just did a massive return and used the credit towards diapers.

I didn't overlap. I picked whichever place was cheaper. If same price then I just try to spread it out.

Thanks for the responses! I know I'll get at least some things from an online registry, because my dad and stepmom buy pretty much everything on Amazon. But I'll be sure and load up the store registries the most, and I think I'll only double up on things that I don't mind getting two or more of, or that would be easy returns.

@Torchwood: Exactly, the overlap was stuff I didn't mind two of or I could easily return.
I overlapped. Mostly for smaller stuff like bibs, diapers, etc. I don't think I really got any shower duplicates for anything major.
Some of the big stuff I wanted a particular style that was only at one store.

Not trying to restart this or anything, but it just occurred to me that there would be some benefit in finding who offers registry completion discounts. I'd rather have most of my stuff with someone who does.
