I always like to browse in a brick and mortar store when I'm shopping for gifts for a shower (and almost always get something from the registry, with maybe a couple of extra related items thrown in). I hate showing up for a shower empty handed, so I'd be forced to pick out something from a store and it might be something the person doesn't want/need.

@hilsy85: My mom was so weird with our wedding gifts. We got married in Virginia and live in Montana, and didn't think to tell people not to bring gifts to the wedding, but to ship them! So we ended up with piles of gifts in VA, and were flying back to MT. I asked my mom if she could exchange them for gift cards (we were leaving soon after and couldn't do it ourselves) and we would just buy the same stuff in MT since it was all mostly BB&B stuff.

She was like, "No, because that's the item someone picked out for you!" I was like, "well, not really - it was stuff we registered for and a lot of it was shipped here. So it's not like they were like "ooh, that's the one!" She still refused to do it, and we still have wedding presents in VA that we might never get!

So my point is, some people really do care about picking things out by hand. That being said, we will probably do an online registry. People can/will always get extra stuff at a store if they want!

It depends on your friends and family and how comfortable they are with ordering things online. But you know, my extended fam tends to be old school, but my sis and I still did mostly online registries and we got plenty of gifts off of them. Most gifts we got from other places came with a gift receipt too, so that was nice.

I registered at Giggle for my first baby. They didn't have as many locations outside of NYC back then as they do now... I say just go for it, even if just for the completion discount. And yes, Amazon has a completion discount too.

For another brick and mortar, how about Target? I am not a fan of the Babies R Us stores in NYC... I much prefer Target and Buy Buy Baby for their customer service and overall selection. But anyhow, there's nothing wrong with having three registries at all

I registered at Amazon and Babies R Us because I know people can lag on gifts and buy the day before or day of! The dates on our gift receipts confirmed this!

I have a lot of friends that registered at 3 places...Amazon, a speciality store or local store, and a brick and mortar store (usually BRU or Target). I don't think it's weird at all, and though I prefer to shop online I know a lot of people, especially older folks, who like to go into a store. You don't need to put a ton on there, just enough to give some options.

I'm a registry stalker so I knew what was on my registry the day of the shower, and I was very surprised to see things that hadn't been bought that morning at my shower. Lots of people wait until the last minute (literally, right before the shower) to buy a gift, and they can't do that if it's online.

Also, I hate paying for shipping so I prefer to go to the store.
