A friend generously offered us her Chico Keyfit 30 Infant Carseat (and base) - by the time her baby outgrows it (she'll be 10 months) the carseat will only be a year old : )
So, I was thinking of registering for the next step up carseat (toddler, if you will) instead. Do you think that's weird to register for a non-infant carseat? Is that gift grubbing?

No not at all! My sister registered for an infant carseat and a regular "toddler" carseat and she got both! I say go for it, if someone doesn't want to buy it they won't!

I totally registered for a convertible car seat and someone bought it for me. 
I think it's fine to register for anything that's baby/child related. I know lots of moms who registered for 6-12 month clothes and i totally think anything of it.

Not at all! Shoot if no one got it for you at least you could use your registry completion discount to get it. Btw, that's the car seat we have and I love it.

I don't think that's weird, I think its smart. I would just be worried about getting a used car seat. If the car was in an accident with the seat in it you're supposed to buy a new seat in case there's damage that you don't know about. Just make sure you ask questions about everything!

@artbee: Thanks for the tip! It's a good friend and I know they haven't been in any accidents (and, both she and her hubby are physicians and very safety conscious so they would be upfront with us about any issues). And the car seat will be less than 1 year old, so I figure unless they are in an accident in the next few months, we'll be ok : )

Do it! That is awesome that you'll be getting your friend's car seat. I would totally register for the next one you will need! We were going to do the same thing but now we're not sure our friend's baby will be out of her infant seat by the time we need one.

the guy at bbb said that you can register for things up to 2 years old.... he said we should totally add the convertible carseats. he said he probably wouldn't add the booster. but if you could get 10% off for registry completion, why not, right? lol.

I'd have jumped at the chance to borrow a perfect infant bucket! You never know how long you'll actually use it, so I say go for it. Just check the expiration date on the seat according to the date of manufacture.

I am planning on registering for both the infant seat and a convertible seat, I don't have a ton of other stuff to register for (we are getting TONS of hand-me-downs), so I don't think anyone would think oddly of it.
