Yeah, there are a handful of things like that that I want to comment on and have to bite my tongue. I totally see the appeal (to buy or sell), especially for an infant seat that you use for such a short time, but it's just not worth it.

Kind of related, I think that every time I see someone wearing a baby bjorn who looks like their back hurts. I just want to be like-- you could be so much more comfortable with an Ergo!

@Foodnerd81: I always thought that about the Bjorn but DS wouldn't tolerate the Ergo until he was bigger and could sit up and turn his head around. I ended up buying a Bjorn for those early days :::sigh:::

I wouldn't ever myself... but surely there are some families who flat out can't afford to buy a new car seat?? Or just want a spare for their second car?

Car seats dont bother me as much because I feel like its a persons responsibility to be informed about those kinda of things. Id never buy a used seat.

@Foodnerd81: hahaha - I tried to give it away to expecting friends and they were all like "no thanks, I wanna use the Ergo" me too, friends, me too.

@regberadaisy: I wouldn't say anything. In my old school district (which was 98% low income), there were big swap meets a few times a year and the baby stuff like car seats was in high demand. When people can't even afford food for their kids, I think a brand new car seat is just a safety item they can't afford. And if the choice is between no car seat (in a city with no public transit) or a used one...what's a poor family going to do?

The bjorn thing....I can't even convince my own DH that they are bad for baby, so I definitely wouldn't attempt on a stranger.

@Anagram: The funny thing is, I don't want to tell them not to use it because it's bad for baby (I wouldn't tell them how to raise their kid) but because it's bad for the parent's back (apparently I will tell an adult how to live their life instead). But I keep my mouth shut

Funny though I see more dads wearing the Bjorn than moms.

I have seen a few people put carseats out by the road (which, here anyway, is the universal sign for "take me, I'm free"). I want to pull over and post a sign or something - I don't want people to assume that since a carseat looks good, its safe.

I feel like its none of my business so I probably wouldn't say anything. DH already likes to say I'm way too nosy so I am trying to keep my mouth shut for stuff like that.

I wouldn't personally buy a used seat but I would sell mine once we are done with it, provided it hadn't been in any accidents.

@Anagram: Yes! I work in an extremely low-income school district as well. Most of the parents cannot afford to feed their kids breakfast (every child in my school gets free breakfast), let alone a new car seat. I agree, a used car seat is better than none!
