Which do you prefer? Is one better at certain times than another? Do you have a brand you like? Obviously, disposables have more of an environmental impact but perhaps I can find some that are made from recycled material.
Thanks in advance!

Early on I needed disposable- I would soak the reusable ones, especially overnight. After a few months the reusable were nice because they were softer. But I wore mostly disposable until I didn't need them as much.

I use reusable during.the day, but at night i need disposable or i leak through my clothes. Even 8 months out and i still lesk alot.

I would prefer to always use the reusable ones but the only ones I've found are incredibly bulky and make it look like I've got a couple of sponges shoved down my top

I absolutely needed disposable for 8ish months. The reusable didn't cut it. I had serious over-production, though. Eventually I didn't need anything (probably around 12 months).

I needed disposables for the first 9-10 months. Reusables were fine after that, I only needed them at night.

@Jess1483: @miramira: @stargal: @mrs.oatmeal: @Foodnerd81: Any recommendations on the disposable? My sis gave me these reusable ones but maybe they will be better later on.

I also needed the disposable ones (same reasons as above) and I've tried the Medela, Lanisoh, and the generic brand from the hospital. They all work the same! Buy whatever's on sale
nectarine / 2641 posts
@simplyfelicity: yep. Whatever's on sale. I think I mostly used Lansinoh because there were coupons inside them. Marketing gimmicks for the win!

@simplyfelicity: I used disposable at the beginning, especially for night. I was able to move to reusable pretty quick though (my mum made ours) since I didn't have leaking problems. After a few months (3?) I didn't need anything. All that to say it is probably good to have both on hand

@simplyfelicity: I wore those the other night and I didn't feel like they wicked away moisture well. my boobs were still damp at each feed. I prefer Lansinoh disposables!
pomegranate / 3113 posts
I used disposable ones early on, but they made my boobs really itchy (I tried a couple different brands and that didn't make a difference). I switched to reusable and just switched them whenever I leaked too much. I liked the Charlie Banana ones because the material didn't feel as wet when I leaked, but they don't conform to a breast shape very well so I didn't wear them in public unless I had a bulky sweater or jacket on. The Bamboobies are the best for not showing under clothes, but they feel wet pretty fast so they didn't work as well during the first few months. I think I had stopped wearing nursing pads altogether by 7-8 months PP.

I've only used reusable so I can't really compare, but I really liked them.
grapefruit / 4988 posts
I used reusable ones while I was at home and disposable ones when I was out and about, mostly because my reusable ones could sometimes be visible under my clothes and I didn't like that. Also it was just easier to throw out a disposable one and replace it on the go if need be.
pear / 1547 posts
@simplyfelicity: I used the bamboobies ones! I used the ones in your pic, okay I use them currently, during the day and then had the overnight ones for overnight. I love them! I hated the disposable ones, felt like wearing a diaper in my bra. Only used them when I was behind on laundry. At first sometimes I would go through a few day time ones in a day, but now I barely leak so I mostly just keep them for daytime to wear in case I run into a crying LO or hear something like my pump! Ha But I loved not having to buy and throw out a ton of pads, and I did laundry so often it was super easy to throw them in. They're pretty invisible (the overnight are bulkier) and I felt like they did a good job. Not perfect, they shifted occasionally, but overall pleased.

I never liked the sound of the disposable ones so I only used those in the beginning when I leaked like crazy. I have a few pairs of la leche league reusable that I really liked.
I never needed pads after eight weeks though, so my experience is limited.

I used both but was VERY leaky, so I had to either double up reusables or use disposables (lansinoh were the best!). I loved epibi brand with different absorbencies and a sort of waterproof backing, lily pads once I wasn't leaking so much, . HATED TL care organic because they weren't big enough and they showed through a bra/tank and with no backing, pretty much like putting a paper towel in my bra. Nuk and medela were meh and I didn't like the ones with a lacy back to them because they showed through. If you're really leaky, I recommend getting Milkies to save milk whole you feed pump! I filled many bottles with those and it would have otherwise been wasted! (Side note, it's funny how this is flooding back to me 2 years later! Gonna need it later this year)

Disposable were essential for me because they wicked away the moisture and held a lot. I loved the lansinoh, which I think work well for large breasts. My smaller friend raved about the medela.

I used disposable because they were one less thing to clean and I was so exhausted those first few weeks

@simplyfelicity: I need disposables because I leak a ton. Target brand are just as good as name brands and are WAY cheaper. It's kind of ridiculous how expensive nursing pads are.

@PurplePeony: same. The disposable ones made me incredibly itchy!
grapefruit / 4681 posts
Reusables. Just bring extra pads to change if you have any leakage.
I wore disposables once with my first and the itching was insane! The Bamboodies ones you posted have a layer of PUL, which is supposed to prevent leakage, but can also make you feel not as dry like @sorrycharlie: said. The PUL also make me itchy.
My favorite at the Glitzy Gals from Itzy Ritzy!! Their amazing and PUL free. I also have some hemp ones and some bamboo ones I got in a co-op that were inexpensive but work really well.

At five weeks postpartum I never leaked enough to soak through so I prefer the reusable ones for softness- the disposable ones felt too rough!

I was/am a bad leaker, so disposable lansinoh pads were the only kind I liked. Once my leaking calmed down, I cut some of M's old burp cloths into washable pads. They work great!

Sorry I totally don't know if you had your baby yet! I think it's great your sis gave you pads but I think you should wait a bit till you breastfeed to decide on pads. I only say this because before I had my first kid ... I stocked up on a ton of breastfeeding items and breastfeeding did not work out with him at all (such a bummer for me)... luckily I saved it all and I'm breastfeeding this time around. BTW I really like medela brands disposables they seem to keep me drier.

I have those and honestly, they are super thin and didn't do much for me.

I tried reusable and they stayed very damp and made my nipples itch!
I really like the Lansinoh disposables
honeydew / 7463 posts
I had disposable Johnson & Johnson and they were the best. I also had the medela and lanisoh and the J&J were so much cheaper (I think?) and better in my opinion. They have a notch inside the pad for your nipple so it's not squished and they are truly contoured/rounded so they were hidden the best. I found the other "contoured" ones were just pointy and painfully obvious.
I got them on Amazon.

I used disposables the whole time with DS (13 months) because I leaked a lot and they seemed to contain more than reusables.
For DD, I used disposables the first 9 months or so, and then switched to reusable (no brand name). I didn't like how big they were and they could be seen under clothing, but since it was starting to be fall/winter, I could hide them better under sweaters. I seemed to leak less with her, and the last few months, I would just use one pad at a time, switching boobs each time I nursed because I would only leak a tiny bit when I had a letdown, and not randomly leak throughout the day.

I only use reusable. I love love LOVE the Fuzzibunz ones. They hold a ton and have a layer of pul between the pad and your shirt so they won't leak unless they fall out of place. I had some of the disposable and I hated them. They felt funny, stuck to my nipples weirdly, and itched. Not a fan at all.
ETA: I have another brand of resusable that are just a few layers of cotton or bamboo or something. They are totally stupid. Even what feels like the tiniest leaking while feeding DD makes them leak to my shirt. They were more expensive than the Fuzzibunz ones and I hate them.

The disposable were itchy to me, they didn't breathe like the reusable ones did. But, the reusable ones were really bulky and looked like crap under my clothes so I really only used them at home.

@Raindrop: Where have you been girly!? Aside from taking care of a newborn. I am due in 9 weeks and was curious since I figured I would need some in my hospital bag.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
I didn't know there were reusable ones and had already gotten 2 boxes of the Lansinoh disposables. But I have no complaint! I barely leak but I just feel better having them when I have random let downs and small leaks overnight.
pomegranate / 3192 posts
I wouldn't worry about packing too many in your hospital bag, your milk probably won't be in by the time you leave the hospital! Nipple cream on the other hand... don't forget that!!
I had lansinoh disposables and some bamboobies but I almost never ever leaked (even though I had a great milk supply!) so I barely ever needed them.

@QBbride: I am such a newb...so what does the baby eat? Colostrum? When does that come in?
pomegranate / 3192 posts
@simplyfelicity: yeah they survive on drops of colostrum until your milk comes in! Your babe will want to feed tons, which signals your body to make milk... so while exhausting, it does have a purpose!
It usually takes 3ish days for your milk to come in... when it does come in, you'll know! Ouch!

@simplyfelicity: haha long story... but I'm so happy to hear that you close to having the baby! So exciting!

Like everyone else, disposable! I was way too leaky for the reusable :s
Lansinoh were my favorite but the medela were ok too
