I'm not a fan of it. I like something to tie them together such as similar names or names of the same origin but not the same name.

That's just my opinion though

Not a fan. I don't think it's fair to #2 to not have a name of his own.

I agree that reusing the same middle name (Sam David and Michael David for instance) would be appropriate, but Sam David and David Michael would be a little weird. Maybe take a break from looking for names for a while...something will come to you! Good luck!

Reminds me a bit of George Foreman's boys named George. There are lots of good names out there. You'll find a special one for #2... just think of it as a fun challenge.

I don't see the problem with it.

In my dad's family of 10 there are 5 boys and they have overlapping first and middle names. It doesn't seem to bother anyone. And most of the boys in the next generation have a middle name after one of the uncles, whether it be first or last.

I'd be cautious about using the same name but then again my dad's family had one name that was used over and over and it didnt seem to bother anymore...
My grandpa was Hugo. He had 12 children 6 boys, 6 girls. they included Hector Hugo, Victor Hugo, and finally Hugo (II). Hector Hugo died in childhood, and Victor Hugo as a young adult so I also have 2 cousins named in his honor. And I find that Im also drawn to the name. . . So despite my caution to use the same name I;m still big into family names!

I think each child should have his or her own special name. Siblings have to share so much-- give them each their own name!

My brother's has our oldest brothers name as a middle name and my middle name is my sisters name

I don't think it's a big deal at all, I actually like the idea. And if I had quint boys, I'd name them all George, haha.

Haha if we have another boy D wants to swap both names...we have an Evan Charles, and he wants #2 to be Charles Evans. I vetoed it. I think having the same middle name is fine (especially if it's a family name), but I wouldn't want to use #1's middle name as #2's first name. I just feel like each kid should have their own, separate identities.

@Greentea: I agree! If it's name you love, why not? Your LOs won't always be associated with one another and it's doubtful that everyone will know big brother's MN.

Do it! But I may be partial since my first name is my older sister's middle name. It never bothered me at all! In fact, I don't think I even realised it for years and when I remember knowing it, it was more of a fun story to tell than something bad. Most people do not go through their lives as Firstname Middlename Lastname, so I don't think many people in my life even know this fun fact about me! I love it now and love my name! I don't think my parents got too much blowback from doing it either.

I like the idea of the same middle name especially if the name has sentimental value or a family connection.
