We usually bring cars, a few of his little people animals or people, bath squirters, and books

We just got back from a shorter road trip with my 1.5 year old and we got:
New Board books with flaps
magna doodle (she needed a little practice getting the erasing part down)
V tech laptop (LOVED that)
Pencil and pad of paper (didn't really use that. But we found My First Pencils that were already sharpened and bigger and soft tips)
V tech phone
color wonder travel kit (used it a little bit)
Tablet with shows
She only slept 40 min and played with the stuff we got her the rest of the time. She normally is horrible in the car but she did fairly well. We mapped out a stop at a playground for lunch on the way there, and stopped at sonic and ate outside and let her run around on the way back.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: this is our third solo 5 hour road trip this summer so I know the usual stuff is getting boring! I haven't tried a manga doodle...could your LO erase on it without help?

I had to show her a couple times while out of the car, but then she got it and was fine. Took a little effort bit she managed to do it. She liked to scribble and erase. I got the B toys brand one at target.

How do you guys keep your young ones from just tossing the toys (and then screaming once they are gone)? That's why I resort to the ipad on long trips.

We have captain chairs in our car, so I put our pillows in between and the bag of toys right next to her so it's easy to reach. She isn't too much of a thrower in the car, except when she's mad and that's a whole other issue. Lol

@raintreebee: mine don't really throw toys either. I have a mirror so I can see her in the back since she's still RF and I'll sing songs to the kids or wave at them. My older one does get the iPad only on road trips but I only give it to him when she is sleeping. She'll usually sleep two or more hours on a good trip because I try and leave around an early morning nap time. I also pull the middle thing down and stack books and small toys so she can reach them. It's usually enough to keep occupied for a while.
