DH and I have talked about taking a trip, just the two of us, possibly next January before there's a possibility I'm pregnant. I'd like for it to be romantic but we also like to have things to do (sightseeing, good food, etc). Right now, we're leaning towards Savannah because there's enough to do, it's romantic, and it's where we had our honeymoon. But I was wondering if there were any other ideas? We've also thought about Charleston since it's where we got married. I would love to go to Maine or something but we're from the Charlotte metro and would like maybe half a day drive at most (to cut down on travel time during the trip and to not be too terribly far from LO).

Was just about to suggest Savannah & Charleston! Went on a romantic vaca 10+ years ago and still dream about going back. So beautiful.

@rachiecakes: We definitely had a great time since we were in Charleston for about three days for our wedding and then in Savannah about five days. I know DH absolutely loved Savannah and we'd like to go there when it's a little cooler so we can walk around more.
I will add that we don't care if it's cold and we're at the beach. We're both hot natured people so cooler weather makes for better walking weather than heat and humidity for us!

Lots of places in NC if that isn't too old hat for you! We are in NC today for my birthday. Trying to decide whether to go to Asheville, Hot Springs, or Brevard for the night.
I love Charleston and Savannah! Beaufort is supposed to be pretty too.
How about the 30A area? I've heard so much good stuff about it!
You could get a cheap flight to NOLA?

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Good ideas! I forgot about Biltmore and Asheville which might be a good idea. I think DH has always wanted to see Biltmore!
I now also remember that we had wanted to go to Amelia Island at one point and that's not too bad (5 hour drive).

Asheville has tons of really cute B&Bs that might make the trip a little more special -- and most of them are close to and/or walking distance from the restaurants downtown.
Plus, the Biltmore has (not terrible) wine tasting.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: my MIL's cabin is right outside of Brevard! It's a pretty town.

If it's a quick weekend trip we also like the Boone, Blowing Rock area. Lots of fun. Also Asheville with a day trip to Biltmore.
We also love savannah and charleston. Savannah is super hit this time of year though.

We like the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. The downtown areas are pretty cheesy, but they can be pretty fun. We usually rent a cabin outside of town. We always feel so relaxed there, and we both think that area is so beautiful. I definitely recommend going to Cade's Cove for some great views.
If you are going in January though it might be pretty cold, and you might have to worry about bad weather on your drive. I think is it around a 4 hour drive from Charlotte.
