I think it can be either, although it is our top choice for any girl we may have. Love the name!

I voted both but I only know one person named Rowan and it's a little girl.

I voted boy just because I think a "both" vote doesn't help much. I definitely think is can be a unisex name, but if I saw it written down on a class list or something, I would assume boy.

I always think boy, but I know it can be used for both.

I feel like it's a more masculine sounding name to me, and I would assume a Rowan would be a boy, but I know both boys and girls with that name.

I think it's unisex, but I voted girl because it was high on my girl's name list for a long time.

I think it can go either way, love the name! We were considering it for our boy but it is too close to my cousins sons name, Roman.

I know there is at least one of each here on HB! I had never really heard the name before, so it's unisex for me.

Thanks all! We're having a boy so your responses make me really happy. I loved the name for a girl and wanted to make sure it was still legitimately just as much a boy's name in people's minds.

I know of 2 or 3 Rowans, all girls. To me, it's a girl's name. But when I suggested it to Hubs, he said, "Isn't that a boy's name?" Sooo...

I voted "both", because it's one of those names where if I saw it on a class list and had to guess, I wouldn't be AT ALL confident I was guessing correctly (boy or girl).

I always assumed it was a girl name but DH's friend recently had a baby boy and named him Rowan so I guess unisex.

Seen it used for both! I love it as a boy option for us (we have a girl) but my husband doesn't feel the same. Go for it either way! Super cute name.

I have a girl Rowan and I LOVE her name. I voted for both though because I know both boys and girls named Rowan

@sera_87: the only Rowen I know is a boy! Every other kid is Rowan

@hummusgirl: PS Consider Ronan as well - definitely a boy (Mia Farrow's son)!

I always leant more towards Rowan being a boy's name, similar to Rohan.
