We play, do crafts, I clean. We will bake fun things too. If its nice, we go outside to play, go on walks. We also play with my friend (who is also a SAHM) and her kids. We will go shopping or run errands about once a week, and get a treat while we are out. DS always gets to start the day with breakfast and a cartoon, which gives me time to have my coffee and get ready for the day.

I am a SAHM... I am always busy! It is unbelievable how fast messes add up and need cleaning when you are home all day. I get up at around 7:30, get the two of us breakfast, sit and watch some cartoons for a little while and then clean up the kitchen . Do some laundry (not every day) and try to get it put away. Checking facebook and hellobee randomly throughout this period. Get lunch ready and after lunch she goes down for a nap, this is when I usually take a break and hop on here for a while, check emails and all that fun stuff. I also usually take my shower while she is sleeping. Then for a while it is just playing with my daughter and cleaning up random messes. Then I make dinner, we eat and then maybe watch a movie or two then do the bed time routine. It really doesn't sound like much but you add in 50 times of telling her not to do something and saying "no, you can't eat that, you have to wait til we are going to eat *enter meal here*" you wonder where your day has gone lol.

I cook our meals, play, watch Yo Gabba Gabba, clean. I also volunteer outside of the house and hope to bring him with me when he turns 3.

Sorry the "how do you keep busy" question was more for new moms... ,my LO is only 11 weeks and spends alot of her time sleeping.. I know as she gets older Ill realize I have no down time, but right now I have lots of down time.

@lovelife: haha my little one was awake and alert quite a bit of the time even since birth, I could spend forever just playing with her. When she was sleeping I would read a lot or play on the computer (it was mid winter and lots of snow so there was no going outside for me).

Yes, it's busy, but I think what the OP is asking is what do SAHM "do" with their kids. Like, what specific activities and for how long. Is the day structured: meals at certain times, certain types of play for a set amount of time? I'm a WAHM mom, so I see what my nanny does, and she has DS on a schedule. Food at certain times, belly time activities for a while, other types of 'play' to encourage crawling, etc.

Whats your schedule like?
for example.. this is how my day started today.
-8:00 --> wake up, feed baby, I have coffee and breakfast
-9:00--> Baby naps (falls alseep on her own) I have the TV on while I do dishes, let the dog out, make bed..chores) get a short work out in... hellobee..email
12:30-->baby wakes up...
whats your typical schedule.

When my LO was younger she refused to be put down for her naps, she only wanted to be in my arms. So I was always busy holding her!
Do you get a lot of sleep at night? Why don't you try to take some naps?

I am the mom of a pretty demanding 4 month old, so mine is not as jam-packed as I wish it were!
Wake up around 7-8am, feed baby, play until 10 or so
Baby goes back down around 10:30 and I catch up on email, clean, whatever until she wakes up (around 2 - she's stirring now)
She and I play from 3-5ish, then I get dinner ready. I do let her have a lot of time to roll around on her own to try to get her to roll over, strengthen muscles, etc. while I pick up the downstairs rooms and load the dishwasher quickly.
Then, DH comes home and takes over for a bit while I finish dinner and work on more in-depth cleaning that I didn't have time for earlier in the day.

My son is almost a year, and when he's not napping twice a day for anywhere from an hour to two hours, we are playing, doing personal care stuff, preparing and eating food, getting ready to go outside for walks, visit friends, errands, etc. There's no set schedule, he pretty much eats every 4 hours or so, naps around 8:30 and 2.

@artbee - we get good sleep at night.. we got lucky. She usually goes to bed at 9:30-10 and wakes up once.. Then my husband gets up with her at 6 before he leaves for work and she'll sleep till about 8.
Im definetly not complaining about not having much to do since she sleeps alot, but feel a little guilty that I just hang out all day while DH goes to work.. Just wondering if there is moreI should or could be doing.

My LO is 4 months old and our day looks like this, more or less:
6-7am: Wake up, feed
7-9am: Play on the floor, tummy time, practice rolling, I have my coffee
8:30-10am: Anywhere in this time frame LO will nap and I will try to eat something (I'm really bad at eating - not picky or dieting, I would just rather do something else (laundry, dishes, cleaning) than to eat)
10-noon: Feeding, more playing, TV, singing, walking around the house, etc.
Noon-3pm: Another nap plus an outing to the mall, just to get out of the house.
3-5pm: Another short nap plus more playing, winding down.
5-6pm: Winding down, quiet playing, feeding
6-7pm: Bedtime routine and in crib for sleep.
LO is very fussy so while it might not seem like I do much, it's tiring just to keep her from flipping out!

@lovelife: I would enjoy it while you can! The older and more alert your baby gets the busier you'll get.
