Usually I don't... but when I see how my friends from grad school are advancing in their careers I do get a tiny bit jealous.

I honestly don't miss going into the office everyday and all the little annoyances and pettyness that I've seen come up in my office experience. I do freelance write so I still have a toe in the water, so to say. But I like being able to do things on my own timeline.

Sometimes! I miss my students....but not the rest of the stuff that teaching involves!

I miss the intellectual stimulation. Now that my daughter is night weaned and lets me read some during the day, I can get far more of it. It would be fun to advance my career, but I don't really miss it. I'm excited to go back to a scientific career in a few years, but I like being home and fully dedicated to my family in this period of my life.
My mother in law is going to start taking my daughter for about 10 hours a week, so that I can volunteer at a local museum and resume build and network. I have really mixed feelings about it - on the one hand, I'm eager to get my foot in the door of a future career. On the other hand, I really like our life, and the freedom we have to totally set our own schedule. It'll be weird, for sure. But good.

Like @fancyfunction I also freelance, but there are many days that I miss the challenge/relationship with coworkers/chance to devote my brain to something for more than two minutes at a time. Oh, and I miss a full-time paycheck and benefits!

The jobs themselves, no. Contributing and being apart of things outside my household, yes.

Not really - every now and then when I go to certain shops and see all the work clothes, I get a tiny bit sad that I no longer have a need to wear nice clothes and heels.....but then I remember that as a social worker, I hardly ever wore that stuff anyway, except on court days, because it's a super laid back profession where we usually wore jeans most days anyway.
I also miss after work drinks and work lunches. But those were mostly whilst I was in London so I think I'd be missing them even if I was working now. And finally, I sometimes miss feeling as though I'm challenging my brain on a daily basis, but that's my own fault if I'm not keeping myself intellectually stimulated.
So, no, not really. The things I miss are superficial, silly things and there is truly nothing I would rather do than take care of my child full time and provide her with the best start in life.

@rawrasaur: exactly this!
I'll probably look into part-time work once my youngest is in preschool (1-2 years from now)... Not because I miss working... Mostly I miss the extra $.

@rawrasaur: this. I also miss that exciting feeling of accomplishing a project/task...getting a diaper change done before Lo freaks out doesn't quite have the same effect!

Nope, not at all! I do wish I had a bit more adult interaction a few times a week though. I was a nanny previously so I never even got it "at work"...

Not most of the time. At least not when I keep us occupied and we're able to get out of the house often When we're cooped up in the house for a few days at a time I start to lose it.

Nope! I was a nanny, so I'm doing the same job but for my own kid. The money was nice, but not nice enough to make me want to work again!

I never had a great job so I definitely don't miss working. I do get jealous of others who are advancing in their careers, while I know that I couldn't possibly reach their level after 3 years of not working. I also wish I could help contribute to society more.

Nope. I am much happier now being home. I was looking for jobs before I became pregnant, but then stayed once I found out I was expecting. It would be nice to have more adult interaction, but I do not miss the office drama/negativity one bit! However, I do miss buying nicer business casual type of clothing...but I guess it's helped our savings fund

I do miss the intellectual stimulation and being around members of your own peers. I was a nurse so I also miss the compassionate and ability to do good aspect of my job. Other than that I don't miss the office politics and gossip and the stress level of working with limited resources.
I will start doing a few hours of volunteer work for a weekly community health program in August. I think that is enough for me for now.
