When my girls were in the newborn stages I'll admit I almost never got dressed, or I would go from one pair of sweats to another. Now I make it a point to get dressed every day, I feel so much better when I do!

Totally sitting here in my PJs. I am pregnant with a toddler and get dressed about half the time. If I know we aren't going anywhere (like today) I stick to yoga pants or PHs for comfort.

When I was on mat leave with my first my main goal for the day was to shower, dry my hair, and get dressed. If I could get that done I felt like I'd done ok.

I only work one day a week in the office, so I consider myself a SAHP, but yes, I make myself shower and get dressed for the world every morning because it makes me feel better! (Even if I'm not planning on going out in public )

i wahm and never get dressed. comfy and braless is the name of the game.
pear / 1788 posts
I do, so I feel like I got something done! I also dress Lo everyday, even though she's only 2 months old. Look good, feel good. I also think it helps build a good routine into an otherwise structureless day.

I shower and wear leggings and a Nike zip up and feel fine about that.

I didn't every single day when my kids were babies, but now I take my preschooler to school 5 mornings a week, so I get dressed and put-together every day.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
Yes, because otherwise I am unproductive and just relax away the day. I find when I dress and look more put together it really improves my mood as a SAHM, too. I usually don't get dressed until mid morning though -- unless it's one of the days we have to be out of the house earlier than that.

I'm on mat leave, but I do get dressed because I have to take DD1 to daycare
But by "dressed", I mean yoga pants and nursing tank

I'm on maternity leave and I've been getting dressed every day. I feel better when I'm dressed in normal clothes.

Everyday.
Sometimes that means yoga pants... Who am i kidding it always means yoga pants.
It may sound dumb but I worry about having to rush my kids to the ER and having to put pants on first and wasting valuable time.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@oliviaoblivia: I've had that thought too!! And the one day I did end up having to rush out the door for M's busted lip/stitches I hadn't gotten dressed or done my hair/makeup. I of course threw on real clothes but I felt like a disgusting mess the 4 hours we were at the hospital. Murphy's law I think!

I am so much more productive if I get up before the kids to shower/change/clean teeth.
I find if I haven't showered by 10am I won't get chance to, and end up in sweat pants or something.
We're going to move in with my inlaws soon so then I will really have to figure out how to look decent every day.

I had a 6-month maternity leave and I made a point of getting "dressed" every day, though I use that term loosely. It was important to me to shower, do my hair, put in contacts, and put on some kind of clothing that I had not slept in. But that clothing was typically gym shorts and a nursing tank.
honeydew / 7230 posts
Depends how you define "get dressed." I definitely don't do my hair or makeup! But I like to put on clean underwear. And I have to put on a real shirt because if I just hang out in a cami my kids think it's an all you can eat buffet. They both know how to unsnap the snaps on my nursing tanks/bras and aren't afraid to come over and help themselves, so to speak.

Yes! I shower/make up/hair and get dressed every morning. But my outfit is usually a causal shirt and jeans. Sometimes yoga pants.
As soon as its evening I'm into the comfiest/ugliest sweats ever.

Yes...but most days (okay pretty much every day unless we are going somewhere "fancy") I wear either leggings or yoga pants. But we do go on a walk everyday for exercise purposes so I am working out! Or that's how I justify it.
pomelo / 5469 posts
Yes! Most days DD either has an activity or nursery so we're out of the house by 930 at the latest anyway.

I get dressed every day to feel good. I never used to mind spending a day in PJs but with a newborn I feel a bit sad if I don't shower and dress every day. Some days I wear sweats and no bra and it feels like a treat because it's only occasional. That said, I sometimes go without doing my hair properly, and just put it in a ponytail. But I'm terrible at hair.

Makes me think of this funny. lol
I live in comfy clothes as much as possible. Even if we're going out. I do admit though, putting on makeup seems to make a difference in how I feel.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I always change out of my pajamas. But most of the time that means into yoga pants or leggings. I also always wash my face and brush my teeth, but often shower at night or at nap time.
We go outside just about every day, even if it's just to the playground or the grocery store- though on rainy sick days I have been known to let C stay in her PJs all day. I'm up and down from the floor so much that it just doesn't make sense to bother with jeans or nice things unless we have specific plans for something nicer. (This was pre pregnancy. Now I'm almost 32 weeks pregnant and wear whatever fits).
eggplant / 11287 posts
Yes. But I usually put sweats back on when we come home in the evening. I hate wearing jeans around the house.
grapefruit / 4085 posts
Yes and we tend to go somewhere everyday.
If I don't get dressed I feel lazy and sloppy. I feel better when I get dressed and put contacts on.
kiwi / 612 posts
Yes, I get dressed, but like others, "dressed" usually means leggings or sweat pants plus a clean shirt. I can't imagine not making that transition as a start to my day...I would definitely spend the whole day lounging if I stayed in my PJs!
pomelo / 5607 posts
I sleep in shorts, so I switch to pants because I get cold. But I usually am in yoga pants, bra, and robe. It's just easier with pumping and trying to nurse! Does always brushing my hair count?
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
Yes! If we aren't going anywhere it's usually workout clothes because I get spit up/dirty hands/good rubbed all over me so I don't want to mess up my "going out" clothes and also if I'm already in the clothes, I may as well workout when they nap. My baseline is that as long as I wouldnt be embarrassed for someone to see me this way, I'm good. For me that means, a real bra/no pjs, hair fixed (but I only wash every 3 days so it's basically fixed when I wake up!), and about 5 mind of makeup. It sets the tone for the day. I've also always gotten my kids dressed for the day, even when they were small.

i got ready more when DD was a newborn! now a days, working from home.... nope. i'm on board with @shopaholic: 's cartoon.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
When I was home, there were days I didn't get out of my pajamas/bathrobe. I noticed on those days, I was dragging myself around.
I wasn't winning awards with my SAHM wardrobe, that's for sure, but I found a few things that worked, like stepped up athletic wear (athleta's skorts, for example).

Every day. I have a 3 year old and a 5 day old now and I still get dressed and do makeup every day. I hate walking by the mirror and feeling like a schlump! Plus I am then mor emotivated to get outside and do stuff.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
When LO was 6 months old and younger, no. Now that she is 2, yes, because we go somewhere everyday. Sometimes it is just changing from the yoga pants I slept in to clean ones though.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
I change. Right now my choice is either yoga pants, too-small pre-preg clothes or too big maternity clothes. So getting dressed equals changing from sweats or pyjama pants into yoga pants.
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
Define dressed. Haha! I'm currently wearing yoga pants, but didn't exercise or anything. I put on jeans most days when I leave, but always revert to something comfy when we aren't going to leave for the day anymore.
apricot / 287 posts
I've never really worn "real" clothes at home - I've always changed into either pj pants or yoga pants in the house. Now I'm usually out doing something by 9am so I get dressed just before we leave and change back into comfy pants as soon as I can when we're back.
