Sam's club or costco? Which one?

Costco, no contest. It has nicer products and isn't owned by Walmart. My family has had memberships to Costco, BJ's, and Sam's Club. Costco is the best. BJ's is second.

costco!!! they have more organic options and are a great company, that isn't part of walmart. i have a costco membership, and my parents have BJs and sams, we share memberships and all prefer going to costco when possible (it's farther for us, but if it were closer, they'd drop their other memberships)

Costco all the way!
The services they offer also go way beyond just buying bulk toilet paper- they have a car purchasing program, and my SIL bought her SUV through them, got a great price, with little negotiation involved-DH is adamant that we'll be buying our next car through them. On our most recent vacation, we booked a rental car & hotel through Costco and again, got a pretty great deal (we price checked online, and couldn't find a better deal anywhere else), and it was pretty darn convenient.

Costco. They have better options and they treat their employees well.

Definitely Costco. As soon as my Sam's membership ran out I got a Costco one and haven't looked back!

Also Costco has more organic options, more variety in brand (not all SAMs brand) and has greater rotation of goods. Also one of the best wine suppliers.

Costco! For all of the reasons above plus an awesome return policy. Electronics can be returned within 90 days, and there is no time limit for everything else. I also like their tire center. Great prices and great service.

Costco because it's not owned by Walmart. And all the other reasons...

Costco for all the reasons stated above - and yes to the executive membership. I didn't think we would need it, but we easily spend enough there each year to get the cost of the membership in cash back.
I just wish that Costco carried Pampers diapers - neither Huggies nor Kirkland worked well for us, but Costco actually took back the opened and partially used boxes.
ETA - we also split the membership with some friends of ours and Costco is totally cool with it which is another plus mark in my book.

We are loyal to Costco but we haven't actually tried Sams club.
Yes get the exec membership. If you don't make enough on your refund to cover the check, Costco will make up the difference to you.

I don't have Costco nearby. I have a Sam's membership that my mom gave me, but I rarely go. Wouldn't be worth it for me to buy it myself.

@littlek: we have it but I am not sure why or if it worth it. We got a rebate check from last year cause we spent so much(formula and diapers helped a lot).

There's no Costco nearby so I go to Sam's. I have no problems with it. I've never been to Costco.

Costco, and we are executive. We get a lot of things from the website, like my sons bed and our patio furniture.

Costco
@littlek: yes to the executive membership!! It pays for itself. We spent $5k every 3-4 months just as a family of 4 (but that's with gas, groceries, diapers, carters clothes, home appliances, furniture, etc.) within the past few years.

As someone who is married to a Costco employee in upper management....costco!!!!!!

And yes to the executive. It pays for itself when you get the rebate check, and then some.

I have no Sam's Club nearby but there are BJs and Costco. I have never been to Costco though and I only went to BJs as a kid. I have been seriously considering checking them out - do they tend to have good enough prices to justify? I normally shop at Shoprite and they have amazing sales most of the time and double coupons up to $1 and are always giving me $5 off coupons so I haven't checked them out yet! Typical spending for me is $60-$90 a week. Guessing I should just give them a chance and go browse!

Not to thread jack, but can I ask what the executive membership is? We are getting a Costco in October (and a Trader Joe's... We are moving up in the world!), and I think we will be switching from Sam's based on what I'm reading here!

I love Costco, plus the executive membership pretty much pays for itself when you get your rewards.

@BabyMats: you work at costco? I don't remember if we've talked about this already?! That's awesome! My DH has been with the company for 13 years and we are major fans!

Costco is amazing!!!! We just got a brand new one this week and it's so convenient. Also, I would automatically vote Costco just based on te fact that it's not owned by Walmart. Seems to be run very well and I've heard employees are well taken care of there.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: haha.. yes I have been there for 10 years..I think we have talked about this before. We are fans over here too!

@Emsmems: A basic gold star membership is $55/year. The exec membership is an additional $55, making it $110/year. The exec membership will let you get a 2% rebate (mailed as a gift check you can redeem instore) once a year. If my check is < $55, my store will always make up the difference to me.

@sunny: Wow, will all stores make up the difference?
We won't go to Sams Club despite it being super close due to the way they treat employees. We will be getting a Costco about 10 minutes away- scheduled to open in four months. For a moderate sized city, we are totally spoiled with grocery stores- both high end and middle range that sell lots of other stuff (Earthfare, Trader Joe, a high end chain, Meijer, Target plus Whole Foods is about to open). We walked through one in a different city a few months ago, and it seemed good, but not amazing. I don't know if it is that one trip doesn't do it justice, or my expectations are too high. I am hoping it is half as good as everyone says it is. I plan on getting a membership and was debating which option. Thanks for the insight on the executive membership!

@BabyMats: can I ask what you do there? You can walk me if you want!
