Have you ever had a scheduled power outage? We have one tonight from 10pm - 5:45am. WTH? Who does that the Friday before Christmas???
DH said he's never in his life lived anywhere that did something like this. We're charging everything we can and I'm pulling out all sorts of candles and making sure we have batteries for the Sleep Sheep! lol!

Do you live in a warm area?
We've had scheduled power outages since living at this house, and more recently, a scheduled water outage. Ours have always been during the day, though.

Yes, in my old building we did a few times when they had to do electric work. It's pretty annoying. They usually scheduled it from 9 - 6ish during the week so most people were out at work.

@shopaholic: yup. Be glad it's at night and not during the day! LOL
They gotta do maintenance at some point and those hrs are typically the least disruptive because most people are sleeping. 
Try not to open your fridge at all tonight so the cold air trapped should keep your food just fine. If it's cold enough outside I might even put some of the perishable food items outdoors.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Pretty way, though it gets to the low 50s/upper 40s at night.
@MrsSCB: @locavore_mama: But I guess if it were in the day, we'd still have daylight and/or the option to go out. I think I'll call it an early night, but DH is a night owl and usually up till 2am.

When I lived in Ecuador, there was some sort of electricity shortage (how does that even happen?!?) and for a period of 8 months or so there were scheduled power outages in the ENTIRE COUNTRY. They were staggered in the different provinces. It so happened that in my town it was the oh-so-inconvenient hours of 9-11 am and 6-9 pm. SO annoying!!!
Just enjoy your quiet night, if its cool enough light a fire and fill a thermos with hot water so you can make cocoa!!
